Sony PSP + Bathtub = Bad .. :(
I came home from the gym and my son was hiding in fear because he went to empty the babies bath to take a shower and had his PSP in his pocket. well it fell into the water and he freaked out. he pulled it out and was smart enough to yank the battery out right away. he took everything out and opened all the doors on it. He thought i was going to kill him but i can't get mad at an accident and kinda felt bad for him. I gave him mine and he felt a bit better and I'll just get another if its shot.
this happen to anyone else? what are the chances for this thing drying out and working OK? |
ah, so now we know the truth about your "main pc".
stick it in the dehumidifier for a couple of days.. make sure it is very very dry before attempting to turn it on.. if it's not already fried it may still work.
Most solid state stuff like that should be OK. Just don't turn it on for a couple days. Take a hairdryer to it as well.
If it didn't short, it might be okay when it dries.
I would remove the case if you can do that easily enough. You can clean any circuit boards that are exposed afterwards with rubbing alcohol, if you're worried about dirt or soap that may have made it on to the board. |
Go over with him again what happens if there is an electric cord involved :2 cents:
if he didnt try to start it up it should work in a few days
take a tuperware full of rice and place the psp inside and cover it for a few days |
He did the right thing by yanking the battery. Like everyone says, just let it dry out for a couple of days and give it a shot. I have my doubts about the screen being ok. At least the newer slim PSPs are cheap. The one that includes Family Guy and the Daxter game is a hell of a deal.
the psp is a pretty solid build. if he got it out quickly, and popped the battery out and all that, i doubt it took on enough water to fuck it up. i dropped my ipod in a creek once by accident, and i thought for sure it was caked, but the next day it was working just fine.
I've heard placing it in a jar of rice..the rice will absorb all the moisture
Let it dry out bro and turn it on next week :) it will be fine as long as he didnt try to turn it on already
I'm going to really let it dry out. I'll tr the rice thing but from what he said he was playing right before it happen so it may have been on. I guess we'll see in a few days. they are only like $169 or something now so I'll get him a new one for Christmas and take mine back but it would be nice if worked Thanks for all the advice so far

Awwww, how sweet is tht...
That's almost too cute, poor kid shittin his pants about a lil mistake...
Kids are the cutest... |
Don't turn it on for quite a while... water can stay inside for a long time. Put it somewhere dry for a week or longer, maybe a sealed bucket with a container of silica gel or other chemical drying agent in it.
just a little update ... i put it in the rice as suggested and I gave it a try today. It turned right on and seems to be running well. My son is extremely happy. Thanks everyone

Good to see its working again. Poor kid must have been scared, to them thats a lot of money and thinking they broke it must have upset him. Nice touch doing what you did tho by giving him yours and tell him its ok. :)

man you must run your house with a iron fist. lol I took a photography class and the guy said keep a bottle of rubbing alcohol in your bag. If the camera falls in the water, take out the compact flash and the battery and cover it with the rubbing alcohol it will draw most of the water out of it. Never tired it myself.

kinda like when ya cell phone falls in puddles of water when gettign out of a car or when ya drunk and taking a piss and drop it toilet
yeah.. can't be mad.. it's an accident! I'd do the same.. give my kid (if I had any) my PSP |
I dropped my cell in the toilet once, too bad I had just taken a dump or I would have tried to save it.

My son had a game boy advance go through the wash once in his jeans. Found it when I pulled the clothes out to put in the dryer. Put it in a jar of rice for a few days, turned it on, good as new.
I've been playing the Jackass game on the PSP. Funny as hell...
When I got water on my laptop I was told to leave it for 3 days. I didn't and had to get it fixed.
