I 100% agree, I was just thinking the same thing when I saw your post.

I've said the same thing.. WTF do companies actually think they get anything out of it. They do nothing but annoy loyal GFY users.

It's always the same 4 or 5 trolls posting over and over.

This needs bumping above the afore-mentioned contest threads :thumbsup

I would like to hear from those people holding those contests.

Do they actually see an increase in revenue from it? A substantial boost in new affiliates and sales? Or are they simply handing out $50 to nobodies here and there and hoping for "branding"?

Like everything, I'm sure the contests were a great idea when they ran them 7 years ago. Now this place is board whores with no sites trying to make money off webmaster referrals. With $200 monthly internet incomes and a job at Sizzler.

I'm going to guess that they do it because it keeps their thread on the front page. They try and get the point they want to make across in the thread title, and the contest whores keep it bumped on the front page, kind of like a sticky without having to pay for a GFY banner. If an actual webmaster participates in the contest it's just a bonus. I do find it amusing that there are people with 30,000+ posts in those threads that I have never heard of or seen post in any other thread...

Not necessarily. People believe in "branding" so much that they'll throw away money to idiots and piss off the non-idiots thinking "hey, at least my name is out there!"

Perhaps the contests worked at first, but I'm sure that now they're simply a tool for losers to get gas money.
