Taking Screen Shots

I am trying to take screen shots of some mpg files but not having much luck. I have tried using the 'print screen' function and a few 3rd party app's (SnagIt & Screen Smart) but all these caps just come out with a black window were the video should be. I am running Windows XP Pro and Media Player 8.00, what is the trick I need to successfully take these shots? Thanks! :)

I had the same problem when i was ripping off flicks from mr.skin a few months ago .
here is how you do it...

use photoshop to do this.

hit print screen once, then try and paste it into the new file.. it wont work i know, but hit print screen again on the clip and then paste again in the new file. for some odd reason, it only works after you try it twice....
hope this helps..

btw i was kidding about the part from ripping mr.skin flicks off.

did you try print screen & 'x' at the same time, then pasting into an image editing program?

Go to Windows Media Player Options and turn the video acceleration off.

You will be able to do screen caps then.

What does that do? It dosen't help at all, I still end up with a black window. I will give pimpdog3's suggestion a try.

This was just posted yesterday...
My tip:

Open 2 movies at the same time, then printscreen, then paste in Photoshop.

It will grab 1 of the 2 movies.

Remove the checkbox with "use overlay" in your media player.

start>settings>control panel>display>settings>advanced>troubleshooting

and bring that slider down to none....apply.....then print screen will work every time

Another option is HyperSnap http://www.hyperionics.com it's like $35 and it seems to work like a champ. It will even let you take a timed series of caps so no more sitting there hitting the pause button and dumping the screen cap into photoshop :)
