$2.95 or $9.95 trials?

Anyone have any data as far as which makes more money? I figure the 9.95 would. We switched a couple days ago and did not see any declines in signups so far.

Anyone have any previous experience with a $9.95 trial as opposed to a $2.95 trial?

Thanks.

$30 trials work best.

$9.95 seems a lot for a trial... but I got no data on that...

Basically you're saying we're missing out on an additional $20/signup income?

Odds are, you'll increase your full month signups, if you have a trial price that is more expensive per day, than your monthly option.

But... 9.95 is a bit steep, if you aren't seeing decreases in signups, then go for it... just keep it an odd #.

Let us know in a few weeks. =)

it depends on many factors. the best thing for you to do, is carefully test various price points, and see what does best with your site - and it's associated traffic.

EscortBiz 09-23-2002 10:50 PM

quiet do you use trials?

Another vote for dumping the trials all together?
What exactly is the purpose of a trial? Is it just something that worked a long time ago before broadband and just stuck with us?

I think a 5 day trial and 4.95 to 7.95 is the best
rate. I have tried most all of these.

price depends on monthly membership costs.

3 days are not really that good, alot of surfers
will cancel before they even see the site.

mostly so they dont forget since they have 3 days only.

my :2 cents:

testing different price points - for my situation ->no trials = maximum overall profit. your mileage may vary :)

EscortBiz 09-23-2002 11:03 PM

yup 24.95 was my magic price and i stuck with it since

You think they cancel because they dont want to forget or because they are leeches that can download 15Gigs in a day?

It all comes down to "Why do they cancel the trial?" assuming there is a shitload of content.

Brown Bear 09-23-2002 11:08 PM

Quiet, have you ever considered raising your monthly price? Because I always wondered why you didn't charge more.

By the way, I joined your site once :thumbsup

Erik Estrada 09-23-2002 11:14 PM

I'd go for $9.95

Backov 09-24-2002 12:39 AM

Trials suck ass.. The people that generally defend trials are usually running per-sign programs where they are pretty much REQUIRED to run trials so that the webmasters get their precious pay per sign.

We gave it another try recently and DAMN - never again!

Cheers,
Backov

$1 trial for a month does real well for us and they don't feel pressured to cancel.

we also have a 3 day for $2.95 and it does well if the traffic is fresh and hasn't been banged around alot before it gets to you.

try everything and see what works. thats what we do all the time
tweak, tweak , tweak its a never ending battle.
try adding various types of text to your pages also till you find the right formula.

We had $9.95 trials until about a week ago, when we switched to $2.95.

The number of sales has tripled, but it's too soon to say what is the most profitable alternative.

gothweb 09-25-2002 06:14 AM

I like $6.95, if you're gonna offer trials. Good midrange price. Otherwise, I suspect the $1 route is the best way to go.

chodadog 09-25-2002 06:45 AM

If you jacked the price to $9.95, and noticed no change in signups, then keep it that way! Better for you, and better for your affiliates. Also, seeing as the price difference is getting dramatically smaller between a 3 day trial and a monthly membership, have you noticed an increased amount of monthly signups? Or not really?

Try jack 'em to $11.95 :Graucho

maxcom 09-25-2002 08:41 AM

We decided to say screw it and got rid of the trial for the next 8 days. Yesterday the signups dropped but overall income was higher.
