can you rely on google traffic

Hi: I've noticed that google is dancing and in one day ranking of my site goes up to 100% down, and I didn't change almost everything. What do you think, is it smart at all do try to predict google or just leave it and spend that time for other usefull things?

MikesTraffic 11-27-2007 03:07 PM

you shouldnt, never put all of your eggs in one basket unless you like being poor...

bestxxxtrials 11-27-2007 03:35 PM

I actually heard a great comment from a webmaster once....Create your site for the surfers and not for Google. If you create a good site with good content and apply proper SEO, you will get traffic. Google is not the only search engine out there. In the last 24 hours, 60% of my search engine traffic came from MSN, 25% from Windows Live, and 15% from Yahoo. While it's good to keep an eye on Google, don't stress over what they are doing....

Google's traffic is free. It's good to take it :-)

Fat Panda 11-27-2007 06:03 PM

i'll take any se traffic that is sent my way! i dont discriminate

kesey 11-27-2007 07:55 PM

I'm a pay site. I don't buy traffic. Only have a CCBill affilliate program. Google sends me about 15000 unique visits per day. But, yes, it's a fickle mistress and sometimes I wonder if I would be better off if I signed up for NATS and let affiliates send me all the traffic.

Your sig might be about banned soon... but you're right on the money, build for surfers (with some seo smart things added in) and you'll always do much better then the seo only guys

Oh, cool. I really don't know. I don't push it that much. And haven't really looked into it that much. Perhaps I should...

Yup. That's about what I get. You can check me out on Alexa if you like. I'm not a mega site or anything, and I sure as hell don't get the traffic of Free Ones. But I do alright. My home page is a PR6 and my galleries are PR4. Basically I follow almost none of the SEO advice you see on this board. I do exchange links, but only about once or twice a year. I haven't posted to a TGP in years. I don't promote my afflilliate program. I don't buy traffic. Bascially, I'm a goddamn idiot: I build my site for people and spank the monkey three times a day whether he needs it or not.

Have a good one.

I think in the end you will find that if you build a quality site, you will get the Google traffic you so desire. There are search engine experts out there that often rank below my sites and I put very little effort into making my site for Google. Their crap ass search engine spam pages probably have a bounce rate of 80% or more whereas mine stay at around 20%. And I can promise you, that plays heavily into why Google shoots my sites to the top of my desired keywords over those search engine optimized websites.

Back in the day when Yahoo was a directory, people began paying anywhere from $100 to $600 to get listed, I wouldn't even submit my site to Yahoo and yet they would add my sites for for free. They did this to about 7 of my sites.

Search engines want to provide their surfers with the highest quality site they can and if you continually produce good websites that make surfers happy then Google will give you the rank you want. It may take longer than you want but eventually you are going to get a favored tag from these search engines and get your websites a bonus to rankings because your sites are known as high quality.

Sure Google or any search engine will take any crap you throw at it but in the long run, they will always favor those sites who make their surfers happy. So when you are making your websites, keep that in mind.

I dont think it matters if you have a kick ass site, you should never rely on Google traffic, or any one source of traffic for that matter. Cause once its gone you'll be sitting there with your dick in your hand

damn posted twice on accident

Maybe its your compeditors who are doing the dancing.

victoriavain 12-17-2007 06:15 PM

I finially got on the first page for a very high traffic google keyword and its getting me on the average of $290 a month and thats with no investment other than my blogs I post.

MikesTraffic 12-17-2007 07:56 PM

I have sites that get over 100k a day from google, I dont rely on it though, for every google dependent site I have, I have 10 sites that dont depend on google. I refuse to go broke because all of my eggs were in one basket and I didnt diversify....

Couldn't have said it better...

Right now I receive more traffic from Yahoo! than I do from Google.

How is that even possible?

Google is so much bigger than Yahoo. I can't ... actually ... I went to check the stats on one of my sites in the middle of this post just to try and see and here is what I have ....

Google sends that site 80% and Yahoo sends it 2%, MSN is under 1%.

How do you get so little Google traffic?

MikesTraffic 12-26-2007 10:44 PM

google might be larger but i guarantee you there is a shit ton of yahoo traffic

Google is not reliable, one day you're up, the next day you're down. Enjoy while you earn from them, but don't expect it will be this way permanently.

I don't know, I've always had really good luck with them. My sites have stayed steady for the most part for years now with the exception of maybe one who as you have all pointed out, has a tenancy to go up and down from time to time. But for the most part, my sites have been in their spots going on 5+ years now.

timmyc38 12-28-2007 06:09 PM

depends on the day

V_RocKs 12-29-2007 05:14 AM

Tons of non SEO sites rank well in google/yahoo. This is because of the toolbar.

Manowar 12-29-2007 08:50 AM

Google traffic can be a bit of a bitch some times, but the other search engines are harder to stay at the top of really

ZCurve 12-29-2007 10:44 AM

One of my sites held the #2, 5, and 7 spots on google for 4 key keywords for couple of weeks...then boom..gone with the wind...it's down to page 7 now. But I don't complain really since there are some zillion sites competing for the same spot....I will take what comes.

It was my very 2nd visit to this forum when I took Kesey's advise. IT WORKS better than anything I've ever tried so far. Thanks man.
