Should I be upgrading to vista? (intel quad core Q6600)

Ive heard so much bad things about vista im weary of 'upgrading'
I only have 2 gigs of ram though (DDR2 800) but a decent processor, decent video card.

will vista make better use of my specs or should i stick with xp?

1) answer on question: do you need vista ? are you sure ?
if YES then
2) check for driver availability for all parts of your comp
3) buy more ram

I have a brand new machine with Vista and have not had any problems so far.
Had to find drivers for 2 programs, and that was a snap. Vista runs faster than xp, and handles things better.

Find someone that has a new puter with vista, and mess around with it. Im not sure how stable an upgrade is, but the fresh install from the factory is fine.

Vista is fine for a completely new system (no old software to install from old PC).

I use my vista PC at home (athlon X2 dual core, 2GB ram) for general purpose use.. internet / media center (hooked up to my xbox) / etc.

For working at home I use an old XP pc (2 GHZ athlon, 1 GB ram) to run all my old software.

Personally, I wouldn't upgrade an XP pc to Vista, too many potential problems. But, for a new system as long as you have 2GB+ memory and some decent processing power.. the thing will work flawlessly. All the conspiracy-like hate for Vista is just your usual anti-microsoft, anti-windows super-geek everyone-should-run-linux paranoid compu-weirdos.

I'd say no at this point.. I'm running a quad core now and Vista is just too buggy.

farkedup 11-27-2007 09:26 AM

the "sweet spot" for running XP great was 2Gb of RAM but I suggest 3Gb of RAM if you want to run Vista. IF you have 3Gb of RAM and you pass the compatibility check I'd say go for it. the 32bit OS can only ADDRESS a total of 4Gb memory in total which INCLUDES the amount of RAM in your video card and some other places.

i have a qx9650 with 4 gigs of ram, vista runs awesome

KILL_FRENZY 11-27-2007 03:30 PM

stay with xp for now

WiredGuy 11-27-2007 03:42 PM

Why do you want to upgrade? I'd bet your better to be safer and stick with XP. I just bought a new Dell pc and opted for XP on it.

No fucking Vista, only XP for now

This is stupid. The point of Vista, back in the day when they were developing it, was the brand spanking new type of file system. Something completely new and unseen. It was going to be amazing.

But they never completed the new file system, and instead released nothing but a buggy new version of the same old junk.

Even XP was nothing compared to NT when it came out. Vista was supposed to be revolutionary like NT but instead it's just a shiny new suit for the old, crippled operating system.

NO NO NO NO NO

it is fucking HORRIBLE

Had some problems with a few of my programs... all new programs will all work fine in XP, not all programs will work in Vista so switching back was an easy choice for me.

I was in the beta testing program when I used it though, maybe there's been updates to fix some of the problems since then. I'm still going to wait for the SP1 to come out before I try it again, it's bloated and takes forever to boot up.

No problems here with a new AMD 6000+ and 4 gigs of ram

blogman9 11-27-2007 04:24 PM

vista sucks!
Wait 2 years to update
