Anybody using Fedora 8 on his Server(s)?
 

I'm actually using FC6, and thinking about upgrading to Fedora 8. Does anybody use it actually, and did you encounter any Problems while using it with cPanel?

No, but if you're used to Fedora I'd upgrade to CentOS instead. Very similar and free. Fedora is the low end version of Red Hat.

Maybe the answer is no?

I can not address the cPanel question because I simply do not know, but IMHO Fedora lost its usefullness as a server OS since they dropped the "core" from their naming convention :P

I installed Fedora 8 on a machine here to play with it and can only conclude that it is a slow bloated monstrosity.

I just got used to Fedora so much, but I'm gonna give CentOS a try, wouldn't hurt.

You can check the docs or install it at your home to get a feel, but it is very similar.
I encourage you to do a bit of research before making a decision.

Both are derived from the original redhat project and use yum for package management.

Fedora and RH have gotten too behind in updates on the official packages. So I've been liking Ubuntu more and more after being a RH/Fedora user for years (and years). It's not really tough to transition to another OS, now I just type apt-get vs yum or up2date.

I run Centos 4.5 and 5.0 in i386 and x64 , depending on CPU(s) of the boxes.
No problem with Cpanel.

CentOS is the way to go. Its not just similar to Red Hat.. It *IS* Red Hat Enterprise Linux, just repackaged without all the Red Hat trademarks. You generally can only get Red Hat Enterprise Server if you pay Red Hat for support and Red Hat Network. The CentOS team just grabs the source, created a build system and distribute it.

Red Hat ES/CentOS are much more appropriate for servers... and it has a two year release/support schedule. Your not going to get all the latest and greatest experimental technology like you would with Fedora, but a nice stable, well tested OS. Fedora is Red Hat's testing ground for the latest and greatest stuff.. not exactly a good candidate for production servers usually.
