Tattoo Coverup

After having the leprechaun tattoo since I was 16, I decided to cover it up with something a little more meaningful, as I have a much better custom designed leprechaun on my arm. After finding the artist of my choice, I went in yesterday for an appointment. After a 7 and a half hour session and skin so raw that it hurts to even move today, this was the final result. I will go in 2 weeks from now for color touch ups, but as you can see in the pic below, she did an amazing job with the coverup and integrating many elements together that she's never combined previously.

The tattoo is of a Chinese dragon with Celtic knots for scales, and in his claws are my family crest. In other words, it is a bit of a Hybrid.

Nice work man... One of the best coverups I have seen... Usually coverups only turn out so so and you can tell thats what they are, yours looks like a good orginal tat.

I am too... After the first 3 hours, my skin was beat to shit. After a 30 minute break, we came back and sat again. The pain (pure irritation) at that point was insane and she kept asking if I wanted to come back for another session. Being as I didn't want to go through this a 2nd time, I chose to stick it out as long as her hand was still steady.

The best part: I didn't shed a drop of blood at all during the entire session. The last guy who worked on me made me bleed as if I were a damn fountain!

Yes actually.

The Chinese dragon is a bringer of good fortune and wealth, as well as one that chases away evil spirits. The placement on my back is significant of chasing away evil which I cannot see. By also bringing in the Celtic Knots is paying homage to my Irish Heritage which also tied in to my family crest that the dragon is holding (the heart with the crown is my family crest). By the dragon holding my family crest, it signifies that my family is blanketed with good fortune and wealth, as well as the avoidance of evil.

To those who don't want to know the whole story, I can just say that my wife is Chinese and I'm Irish, and it's bringing the 2 cultures/families together into 1.

I have been itching on getting another, but haven't really decided on the design yet. Most of the time when I have gotten a tattie I have decided sort of last min on what I was going to get with the exception of the my last one. We actually filmed that last one ..I'll see if I can dig it up and post it.

Kinda funny story on the one of my tats. I had a few friends call me up one day from the tattoo studio and they said they booked me an appointment for the next day as they both had to go back for another setting the following day. I was like "WTF, I don't have a clue what I even want to get", glancing over to the coffee table where there was a can of spray paint. At that instant I thought hey I'll get the explosive symbol from the spray paint can on my inner bicep. The guy that did it did a really good job and going on 8 years now and the colour is still very vibrant. I have even had people ask if it was real.

Nice! tattoos always should have a deep meaning, or signify a place in your life that you'll never forget. It sounds like this work definitely will remain in your mind for years to come!
