Behind the scenes work

I come more from a traditional video background, broadcast production and news. Almost a decade of experience with professional (read HDCam, Betacam, Avid, Arri, Lectrosonics) gear and settings.

Obviously I am best served moving to LA.

So now my question-What is the path to getting Camera/Audio/Grip work in the adult field? Pay?

Ideas anyone?

Put up your own money, book some shoots in LA through an agency such as LA Direct, book a studio or a house as well (you can find ads for shooting space on LA Direct as well). Do all the work yourself to start out: shoot the video, do the lights, do the sound, get to know people, make some contacts, show them your work.

Why this approach? Because a lot of shoots are gonzo, small outfits that have a very small crew or a crew of one. And there are already established pros who get the good gigs, like shooting for the Bang Brothers (ain't that right, Nic?).

Not to say you can't break in. Sounds like you got great "skeels." Just might take an investment up front to get to know people. Cool that you know Avid, that's the good stuff.

Good luck.

This is exactly what I did and now Im doing awsome. I had the production background as well but making porn is totally different. I have used avid as well but I prefer adobe premiere and its media encoding capabilities. I have learned a ton in the past 2 years. Now Im shooting for some great companies and making decent money.
