Do you take "Pimp" as offensive word?

If an adult webmaster related website have word "Pimp" in its domain, slogan etc., would it prevent you from surfing that site and/or joining it?

Do you take use of word "pimp" as offensive in general? Not talking about real life, just on interwebs.

I had a lil debate with a friend, he thought its an offensive term, whereas I don't think so .. and also I have not seen other webmasters getting offended by this.

thoughts?

Pimps are fucking lowlifes and it amuses me to see the word becoming "cool".

How a pimp is lowlife? And what is difference between a real-life pimp and someone promoting a hardcore sologirl? Or generally promoting porn?

just curious about your take on this..

I think that it has become more and more inoffensive to the majority of people especially youngster, it doesn't have anymore the offensive character as before especially with the success of the MTV show "Pimp My Ride". Pimping now pretty much stands for "cool" in my opinion. Of course, with the older people, the offensive character of the word has more chances to be still be there though.

Agree.

It's also a term now used freely among wannabee webmasters, presumably because they think it is "cool" *lol* Load of clueless wankers :winkwink:

I respect your opinion, but this i don't think this statement is true .. I have seen many old adult webmaster using this term freely.

Also, note we are not talking about general/mainstream webmasters here but adult webmasters specifically.

It's just slang Vick! and appears to be mainly used by people who think they are "cool". Hell.. even hate the word "cool" - WTF is that?? :winkwink:

It was never a term in the adult industry before online started and presumably a few webmasters thought of themselves as "pimps" - suppose it does create an "aura" *lol*

I drove cab for a year so when I think of "pimp" I don't think colorful character, I think sociopath. The reality if a real street pimp is very different than the pop culture take on what a pimp is.

The difference between a pimp and porn promotion is a fine one, but for me it boils down to degree of removal and level of abuse.

polish_aristocrat 11-23-2007 08:59 AM

can't say it's my favorite word, I prefer usually a more professional approach instead of all these "become a pimp, make easy ca$h" slogans, but I don't have real issues with it either

CarlosTheGaucho 11-23-2007 09:54 AM

I know a couple of real pimps, therefore the word has a serious poetics when I hear or use that :):pimp

Thank you and of course the industry doesnt think how it makes us look to the outside world calling each other pimps and giving awards of the name. It would be like having the scum award. Promoting some solo girl is very different than getting some girl hooked on drugs so she will sell her ass for you or beating the shit out of her on a regular basis. You can put pretty words to anything.
Successful
Cultured
Uniting
Manager

Its still a horrible word , also white kids forget they arent rappers.

If anyone votes that they would not join a site because of it then they are DEFINITELY in the wrong business.

thats exactly what I think. And my friend thought that words like "place for pimps" or "pimps' hangout" can offend some webmasters and they might choose to stay away.

I can see no votes on that option yet. sounds good.

It mostly matters in how self-deluding you are in order to continue doing your job.

In today's society is a honor to be called a "Pimp"
