i leave vancouver at noon. connect in Tokyo, Arrive in Bangkok at 10:15 pm the next day. haha. what did i get myself into. my cousin is going to meet me the next day. or the next. beyond spontaneous. i'm a little scared. guess i will study lonley plant books for the next 24 hours. fack its fun working on the internets.

Don't read lonely planet unless you want to meet a bunch of backpackers.... just go to Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy, Patpong and Pattaya... that is all you need to know.

The best hotel in BKK is the Peninsula...But it is on the wrong side of the river. Go for a place like Plaza Athenee near the Skytrain if you are not staying with your Cousin. It's also close to the Siam Paragon shopping center where you can buy anything.

I think the whole point of Quiet's trip is to check out "the road less travelled" in Thailand. The usual places that have been mentioned aren't really the point.


Has anyone gone outside of the usual tourist traps and explored the islands and outlying reigions?

I would have thought for sure Dugmor went off the beaten path and explored the country... but then again he might have gotten some fish hooks stuck in him for trying to fish hook the locals in the country towns so I can understand why it's safer to stick to the metros. Haha

Either stay at Dynasty Inn Soi 4 Bangkok..... or their upmarket Dynasty Grande in Soi6 (much nicer and good pool and connect laptop in room for free). They have a hotel in Pattaya in Soi 13 (Sandy Spring same Soi is good) or look up Secrets in Pattaya.

For a first timer that has never been to Thailand... it is best to start at the places I mentioned. Once he got his dick wet he can head up the Burma border and smoke opium with the local elders.

...and check out the Cinema in the Siam Paragon. BAD ASS! Electric leather recliners, pillows, blanket and some caramel popcorn make for an AWESOME movie experience. They have Beowulf at the IMAX in 3d right now too. :thumbsup

my gf used to work at Plaza Athenee during her internship......she said the chef there would scratch his balls in front of all them, and even in front of customers......
..and he also instructs them if they drop something to the floor, just put it right back on the cooker, etc etc, i'm sure a LOT of places do all this shit, but this is a 5 star hotel/restaurant, i was pretty disappointed when she told me all this shit, the head chef is some lardass French dude

Expats are almost always fuckups. I bet the guy got fired in Paris for rubbing his nuts.

To put it in perspective the Athenee is 3 1/2 stars at best. The Peninsula is 5 stars, but you can't walk to the Skytrain from there. There are actually a couple of other really nice hotels down by Siam Paragon..The one across the street from the Mc Donalds close to there looked really good.

Century Park is another good hotel, 5 stars. Close to the Victory Monument BTS, only like a 5-10min walk.

i used to live a few blocks away from there, it's a nice area, but it's VERY thai thai-ish if you know what i mean hehe, very packed with people everyday etc etc, but location is nice, center of bangkok and near Century shopping and Center 1 shopping centers (small but still pretty decent)

it depends though, I'd still like to know quiet, what you want to get out of the trip? party animal? fucking chicks? ladyboys? relaxing at beaches? travelling around Thailand? whore mongering? staying in BKK only?

I lived in Thailand for 14 years ,but i have not been there for the last 4 years!so late at night after all the bars close across the street from nanna plaza is nanna hotel,at the back of the nanna hotel is a disco where all the women go if you want to see afree for all of action.Durring the day the nanna hotel has a great buffet.It is full moon now and in koh pangan they have a full moon party,with thai women ,sweedish women, and all kinds of things to keep you awake all night and all day for that matter.I could go on and on but check the online guide i think it will provide you with all the necessary info .you will need ,so as they say in Thailand chock dee,translated as good luck.mensasia dot com.Enjoy,Eidoos77.:thumbsup:GFYBand:thumbsup

we had a freaking blast last night with jscott and his (hopefully alive) gf. only reading lonely planet to get some info (as i had absolutely none). staying at the Banyan Tree hotel. definitely 5 star. but we are heading out to the islands on the 27th.

holy shit this trip is going to take a year off of my life hahaha.

Thailand is a drug. Once you go you will have to go back every year. It is simply the best place for a single guy to vacation. When you arrive (especially if you go to Soi Cowboy), try to excercise "some" self control - trust me, you will need it.
