I have an I Ching kit that someone got me once upon a time ago. It came with bamboo sticks, the interpretative text, and I can't remember what-all.

I do remember it was hard to follow all the steps though.

btw for those that dont wanna read what iching is and want cliff notes..

basically in ancient times you flip 3 coins , whatever te majority is head or tails is yin or yang , each time you get yin you draw a line with a dash , yang is an unbroken line. You do this 6 times starting from the bottom row first until you have a symbol that might look like this

there are 64 symbols ( hexagrans ) total

each symbol is seperated into trigrams.. the upper trigram and lower trigram

each trigram is obviously 3 lines.

there are 8 possible trigrams each representing various earthly elemnts, body parts, action and animal ( among other things )

Hexagram 27 is named 頤 (yi2), "Swallowing". Other variations include "the corners of the mouth (providing nourishment)", "jaws" and "comfort/security". Its inner trigram is ☳ (震 zhen4) shake = (雷) thunder, and its outer trigram is ☶ (艮 gen4) bound = (山) mountain.

p.s.s.for a simple cliffnotes , its basically a horoscope. but you can also think about a question while you are doing it and get an answer to your question..

not to say its accurate or anything or gives you a clear answer , but it has been around for ages anyways

its not to tell you what your element is.. one of the animals is "dragon" so its not what animal you have of course :)

its kind of to tell you what your direction is going..

so for example you could be a very stable person in general but the iching says unstable , it just means you are transferring maybe thru an unstable time.

I'm no mystic so i can only go with what i have read.. i'm pretty sure in the old days you had an oracle to explain what the prediction meant..

also in my gfy iching elements are for the upper trigram of your hexagram and theres also a lower trigram , so you have 2 animals. 2 elements , 2 actions etc i only just displayed the upper trigram

if you find the hexagram number at the bottom you can find more about what the upper and lower trigrams mean together and find out both the animals

if you want to do it at home heres how you do it..

flip 3 coins ,
if the majority are heads its yang _____________
if the majority are tails its yin ______ ______

do this six times recording either a broken line or unbroken line starting at the bottom

so at the end you should have six lines

you can put a 1 next to yang lines and a 0 next to yin lines
