Whats a good vacation for a family of 5 that hate to fly?
 

A friend of mine has a serious fear of flying (heights) as does his wife. I suggested they take a trip down to florida or something in the summer, rent a house or something, do Disney. Any other ideas?

We just did a weekend camping thing with the kids (5 and 6) where they are there to help you and teach you all kinds of camping related things.

The kids LOVED IT! And once you have the necessary supplies, its pretty cheap.

I would suggest driving or taking the train.

Rafting is awesome.

Rocky Mountain National Park, if you're interested in outdoors types of things.

You can rent a beautiful lodge in the middle of thousands of acres, and they are generally inexpensive.

Puts you smack in the middle of the country, a few hours drive from The Black Hills in South Dakota or even the Grand Canyon. More than a few hours, I guess, but easily driveable.

why don't they make it a car trip around the different states?? no flying involved.
