Pretty sure Jimmy Page said he was sitting alone one night and he felt a presence that took over and started penning words thru him. I believe he was in his castle and said he thought it was "haunted."

When looking at the lyrics alone, they make no sense.

I have once read an interview with Robert Plant who confirmed that they were all high when this song was written and was not supposed to have much meaning. It could in fact mean many things and could be something different to different people. But it could be about a woman who is buying her way to heaven (substitute "heaven" with anything that makes you feel good) through the use of drugs.

Or it could be about a woman who has anything the money can buy, but it can't buy her happines (heaven).

Don't take my word for it, though...

Only way to understand them is to be high yourself.

High understands high. :D

4 people off their respective trolley's in a room together can carry on an in depth conversation about absolute nothing and make no sense at all to any one listening, but you can be sure that each one of them will understand what is going on perfectly.

Its all symbolism but most of you dumb fucks have no idea what symbolism is and therefore incapable in grasping what the song means or is saying.

To most of you idiots it just sounds good so that in itself is cheap enough entertainment for the retards of the world.

Alot of their songs are based loosely on his stuff, like the battle of evermore which I think is on the same album.

Well it simply happens that some of the most famous songs got completely senseless lyrics and one of the main hobbies of hard fans and pseudointellectuals is to try to decode the meaning and symbols behind it.

Usually they just went high and couldn't decode the meaning the day after themselves but it sounded kinda "cool" and the fans will be looking for "symbolism" anyway and it's better to say nothing than to offend someone ...

There is actually a very few bands where lyrics keep up with instrumental skills - Thin Lizzy beeing one of them in my book... RIP Phil you will always be remembered.

In "The Song Remains..." soundtrack Robert Plant says something like "This is a song of hope", figure the rest for yourself.
