FLASHCA$H asks, "Would you eat Tofurky?"

Thanksgiving is almost here!

And for the first time in my life, I'm planning on doing a vegetarian Thanksgiving.

I know, how can you have a "Turkey Day" without Turkey!?

Truthfully, I'm not sure.

"Tofurky" just doesn't seem right. Maybe I'll just sculpt my mashed potatoes into the shape of a turkey (as an homage to 'Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind,' perhaps?)

I can hear the snickers, already...I can hear the taunts of "hippy" and "treehugger."
But before you judge my meatlessness, just know I have my reasons.

What are my reasons, you ask?

Um, well, I'm not supposed to talk about it.

It's sort of a *delicate* subject around the FLASHCA$H offices as there are several lawsuits and sanctions by PETA still being discussed.

Okay, okay! I'll tell you. Truthfully, its hard NOT to talk about it.

You expect me to watch Buddy go balls-deep into a semi-frozen poultry carcass and just pretend it didn't happen!?

I realize that he is living in Canada now and maybe that puts some psychological distance between him and the carnage he left. But I saw what I saw. And that image will be with me forever.

For the rest of my life I won't be able to hear, "stuffing a turkey," without feeling a wee bit nauseous.

And THAT, my friends, is why I'm doomed to a life of tofu.

Oh man.... Thanksgiving dinner is usually my favorite meal of the year.
At least I can still have mashed potatoes.

ShellyCrash 11-20-2007 11:46 AM

I just made a post about fake meat on thanksgiving :)

Tofurkey is awesome and it's easy to make. You can play around and try to add your own touches, but it's really fine straight out of the box and cooked by directions.

WarChild 11-20-2007 11:47 AM

Don't be ridiculous. Man was meant to eat meat.

interesting you say it like that.

The human animal may be. But It was reading about man's ability to spiritually evolve (in Gandhi's autobiography) that inspired me to try going meatless.

It is one of mine too, just after Xmas dinner (pork rib steak) - this year I will actually be served SOUL FOOD as my wifes folks are coming to town TO COOK :thumbsup

PS. Pour some of the juices from the turkey onto the mashed and you will at least get a taste of it without eating IT. :2 cents:

Shagbunny 11-20-2007 02:05 PM

lesbodojo 11-20-2007 02:20 PM

I'm vegetarian and am not a typically a fan of "fake meats"....but....somehow I really <3 Tofurky. It will certainly be one of many other homemade veggie dishes that I prepare for Thanksgiving.

I've never actually had it. But I love Smart dogs, so maybe I need to go find me some faux bird!
