iPod crash - any way to fix it or do I just throw the stupid thing?

Anyone with experience here? iPod has just frozen completely.

Satan 11-19-2007 11:55 AM

so is your ipod really broken or was this a spam thread ;)

GrouchyAdmin 11-19-2007 11:55 AM

Turn it off, gently rap the side of it against the desk, and turn it back on. :error

JD 11-19-2007 11:58 AM

"reboot it"

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

if it has crapped out on you it's most likely a harddrive or a battery failure. you can get them switched out for relatively cheap in comparison to buying a new ipod...

ps..

if you see this:

yes..there is a reboot sequence....JD most likely has it

cool1 11-19-2007 12:02 PM

had that happen to me.

Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons simultaneously until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.

If you are still unable to reset your iPod, use only one finger from one hand to press the Center (Select) button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Menu button.

When you reset iPod all your music and files are saved, but some customized settings may be lost. Date and time is preserved (unless the iPod reset itself because it had no power and then was reconnected to power). Other customized settings, such as Bookmarks, On-The-Go Playlists, Shuffle, Backlight timer, and so forth are preserved from the last time the hard drive turned on.

if that doesn't work then Your iPod's battery may not be charged properly.

I have the same problem with my video ipod. Connecting it to my PC does nothing (PC doesn't detect it), turning on the ipod directly gives me a crash error. I haven't been able to do anything, its dead as far as I can tell and this is the 2nd ipod I had this problem happen to. Really crappy devices if you ask me if they crash after 2-3 months of usage at the gym.

Apple products are a mystery to me- my boyfriend sets up my ipod for me.

Dusen 11-19-2007 12:05 PM

Could just be a freeze-up. Try 'resetting it' as mentioned above. Takes care of most problems.

OY 11-19-2007 12:25 PM

I have tried everything mentioned above and the thing will not even turn off - and when trying to do a reset via iTunes it tells me that "something is corrupt" - seems like a hard drive crash.

Chris 11-19-2007 12:42 PM

cant you just take it to an apple store?

how come did it froze? there wasn't any word in it or just shows plain white? if it is so then you have to "reformat" it.

tony286 11-20-2007 08:10 PM

mine did that had to reformat lost everything. I had reformatted my laptop and figured I have all my stuff on my ipod. I was fucked.

Shagbunny 11-20-2007 08:13 PM

reboot it, it could be one of the 1st generation ones that did have a battery problem

Furious_Male 11-20-2007 08:49 PM

My video Ipod freezes on occasion. No way to reboot etc. it just sits there locked. What I have done is let it sit until the battery dies. Then I hook it back up to my PC and let it re-charge. Works fine after that.

Give me 15 minutes showing you around on a Macbook and you will spit on your Winblows machine.

Let the battery die out then plug it in a try to reboot. If that fails, go to your local Apple store and see a Genius.

I agree on that. Sometimes, you just have to let it become "very low battery" first before you recharge it (coz the battery life decreases when you charge it and it's not low-battery yet)

One day while driving I was paying attention to my driving and not the Ipod as much... and I changed the langauge. It's rather difficult to reset it being as it was in Chinese. I had to keep scrolling through all of the features until I found English.

xroach 11-20-2007 09:33 PM

welcome to the world of disposable apple products .. i can't wait until people figure out why it's a bad thing their batteries are soldered into their iphones

that's suicidal than having your ipod frozen! especially when you can't even understand a single Chinese word. :1orglaugh
