Too many fucking crusaders...

GFY has deluded the minds of many.

Too many people think they are crusaders - put on this planet to sit on GFY 24 hours a day and look for the next 'cause'.

It's a completely self-interested, narcissistic pursuit.

Latest example: cat thread. Did anyone actually think that the owners or mods of GFY wanted this thread to be there? Do you think any business or sponsor or individual would want to be associated with that thread?

OF COURSE FUCKING NOT, yet some people decided that it was their purpose in life to sit here and make a scene and stomp and cry and throw tantrums and threaten people and companies, etc, etc, etc.. all the while losing focus of the big picture. Do you think anyone needed to be informed repeatedly.. to the point of insantity, of the wrong-ness of the pictures?

Seriously - how delusional do you have to be to think that GFY makes you imporant? How completely self-centred are you to think that YOUR moral outrage carries more weight than anyone else's? Do you actually think it made any fucking difference? of course not, the thread and the poster would have been dealt with regardless of the 'crusade'.

At the end of the day, anyone with half a brain knew that this was a busy week for everyone in the industry and GFY just happens to not be the centre of the universe for most people (omg) and that the problem would be dealt with as soon as was humanly possible.

Threads with animal cruelty = BAD / WRONG / TERRIBLE / DISGUSTING
GFY crusaders = get a life

the end, bring the pain.

I think the issue was how long it took for GFY to react and deal with the thread. I think many people feel its a sign of understaffing of a board of this size that generates the amount of revenue that it does.

What if those had been CP images?

The "huge outrage" really began after the thread was allowed to linger for such a long period of time.

I guess it depends on one's definition of how long "how long" is. Why is it that so many other threads can be ignored and fall off page 1 within 30 minutes.. and yet this was stayed at the top for.. how long? a day? I don't even know.

Bottom line, if there's no mod to lock and/or kill the thread, the way to deal with it is ignore it, as soon as it hits page 2 oblivion, its done.

Yet what did people do? Devote 50% of the entire first page of the board to that thread, driving view and replies compounding the issue to the point of stupidity.

The crusaders won in this case, so what's your point?

There was no 'battle' , that's my point.

WEG cory makes a good point in his thread: fucking-around-and-business-discussion/785606-gfy-moderator-instantly.html

even if it was cp images, a judge or court would not flinch at a 24 hour turnaround time to remove the images, under the presented circumstances. the adult dot com guys just finished throwing a show, webmaster access, give them a break, im sure that most other times of the year it would get handled in minutes

i dont think it would have made any difference in response time whether somebody sent an email to eric + any of the other moderators versus a thousand anti-cat-thread threads launching

maybe your right. maybe the drama caused eric to get a cell phone call rather then being able to check his email/icq at his convenience

well, it succeeded at generating a lot of threads & discussion on the board!

that's an effective way to keep the place busy while a show is on ...
