Best fight ever
De La Hoya Vs. Vargas
|
Ever see Johnny Tapia? ..that guy is exciting to watch!
|
Put any of those boxing pussies in the octagon and watch them get their asses whomped. That would be a fight.
|
Yeah, it was pretty exciting. Good fight! :thumbsup
|
agreed :thumbsup
|
I disagree.. I think even a bum professional boxer would put an "ultimate fighter" in the hospital in about 40 seconds.. check out a pro fight some time, it's like the difference between kids who hook up their Hondas and the big boys runnin' 10s on n/a 350s.
|
That was a good fight though... :glugglug

I dont think so, it all depends on the rules of the game. Pure boxers have tried NHB... and had their ass's handed to them. Same would go if you put an NHB fighter in a straight boxing match. Thats the boxers world, he would dominate there. Anyhoo.... Ultimate fighting has evolved. There is no longer any pure styles in NHB competiton. Everybody is crosstrained now days.... every fighter studies boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and jiujitsu. Knowing only how to box, or only how to groundfight... means you are going to take a beating. |
"studying" boxing or another style and being a pro boxer are different animals. again, check out a live pro fight and compare it to the sparring that everyone else does, the brutality behind a pro boxer's jab is shocking.

... and check out the takedown power of an Olympian wrestler. Shit... your average college wrestler would BEAT THE FUCK out of ANY pro boxer in his same weight class. |
I remember one of the first UFC's where there was a pure boxer in there. He got destroyed.
I wish they still did it like the old days. The most entertaining fight I seen was the 400+ lb sumo wrestler against a little judo guy. He hit the sumo wrestler in the head so many times he broke his hand. He won, but he couldn't continue because of his hand. Now they've taken most of the fun out of it, because there are no more outrageous mismatches anymore. |
Any of you see Arturo Gatti -- Mickey Ward a few months ago? I've got to say that's one of my favorites.
I think the Vargas - Trinidad fight was better than the De la Hoya fight. |

The Arturo Gatti & Mickey Ward fight was brutal. Bert Sugar even said that that was one of the most punishing fight in that weight class he's seen in a long time. I have a lotta respect for those guys. |

Comparing UFC and boxing is not comparing "apples to apples"...they both require a different skill set.
I was a wrestler in college and did a couple of tours with the US National team...then competed in shootfighting in Japan for a couple of years. I weigh roughly the same as Mike Tyson...you couldn't pay me to get in the right with him, under boxing rules. I would imagine he would be tough to wrestle, too. He is a strong man. On he other hand, the best UFC fighter, by far (he only fights in Japan) is one of the Gracie brothers...his name is Hixson Gracie...he would eat Mike Tyson alive. Each sports requires a completely different set of skills and it isn't fair to say one is better than the other. Most of the UFC stuff is from Okinawa and migrated to brazil. The Japanese had removed all the weapons from the okinawans and they developed a style of fighting that is deadly and effective. Boxing is a sport, and the rules are quite different. I can assure you the Hixson would not box with Mike Tyson, under boxing rules. By the way, there are quite a few Gracie do-jo's in the US....one I attend regularly is run by Carlton Gracie in Chicago...those guys are awsome. |

best fight ever was Morales vs Barrera, Morales vs that irish guy? |
I've seen too many great fights in my life to say one was better than the other, I'm surprised some of you haven't mentioned some of Ali's bouts, or Roberto Duran...
There's plenty of greatness to go around, Dela vs Vargas was a good if not great fight, but there are plenty to choose from...check out ESPN Classic from time to time, you'll see great shit there. Nz |

|
nice site man.. I'll try to upload a few things I have before too long.. how about posting some sort of rating on quality of the rip? I'm sure people would either make or find better rips to replace some of the ones you have which aren't very crisp.

Boxing is a great sport. It is very hard to compare the ufc style and pro boxing.........Booker I hear ya ! I have watched a number of the UFC style fighting, pancrase all that shit. There are some devasting individuals competing. But if you notice on there feet none of them really show any "pro" style skills. There have been alot of guys have "trained" in boxing that fought in the UFC. I do not know of one former "pro" boxer that has competed. I maybe wrong. Not that into it. But the destruction of a proffesionally delivered punch is mind blowing. They have a saying in boxing it is not the one you see that knocks you out, it is the one you don't see. I would hard press to bet against a pro fighter bare knuckled. Seems most of the fighters who win those things (UFC) are in or two catergories........they are either the aggressor in the match or have superior conditioning. Boxers have tremendous conditioning, and with few instructions on the "gaurd" position I would bet they would much better than the UFC guys with a few boxing lessons. Just my two cents. (I am boxing fan)
Back to the thread..BT "Make no mistake about it baby" What up bro ! See ya at the Denver game......in the sky box. YEP YEP Great Fights: leonard vs. Hearns Barrera vs. Morales (Both were fantastic) Ivan Robinson vs. Gotti All of Ricardo Lopez' fights..phenominal fighter text book perfect All of tyson's earlier fights one sided , yet devasting from a fans perspective...... Too Many to List............ |
OJ Simpson vs. Ronald Goldman was probably pretty intense.:winkwink:
