Do you tip when you pick up take out?

Figured I might as well start my very own tip thread.

Some of the waitresses/cashiers expect a tip when I pick up my food. I only tip when I dine in...fuck that! :321GFY

Spunky 11-14-2007 10:02 PM

Smaller than usual..like 4 bucks or so

aico 11-14-2007 10:03 PM

if the girl at the counter is cute and I want to eventually get into her pants, then yes, otherwise, no.

LiveDose 11-14-2007 10:04 PM

Certain places. If it's a hot chick getting my order together, always...

tony286 11-14-2007 10:04 PM

If its a server not a person working the cash register then yes I do.

After Shock Media 11-14-2007 10:04 PM

What if its curbside pickup? Like where you phone your order into Ruby Tuesdays or someplace and they bring you your food in seperate containers and shit to your car. Do you not feel maybe they should get a buck or two?

Then again I recently stopped tipping the pizza people, fuckers added a 3.00 delivery fee to the bill.

I would tip if it's curbside service, but if I gotta get my ass out the car and go stand in line and wait...hell no!

I also put 0(zero) on the tip line and make sure I close out the total on the receipt.:1orglaugh

No shit. Papa John's started doing that last year. Complete bullshit. We usually pickup now anyways.

abadfish 11-14-2007 10:23 PM

It depends on where it's at.

I had a friend that worked at Chili's and pointed out to me that when they work the to go section they still do most of the work they would do in the restaurant such as plating the food, condiments, utensils, drinks and make less then min wage but most customers do not tip them. I never did until after that.

Once place I refuse to tip is coffee stands, especially small ones ran by the owner. I really hate tipping all together.

CC 11-14-2007 10:48 PM

No, unless the person giving me the food had to do a lot of extra crap (which barely ever happens).

minusonebit 11-14-2007 10:56 PM

Usually, they forget the drinks so that always negates any possible tip.

DeadFidel 11-15-2007 02:19 AM

I was at the pool at the Marco Polo kiki bar, N. Miami. I self-picked a 12 once bottle of water from a frig dispencer. Saw it was $3.00 (OK no prob)

I went up to the counter and put down 3 bucks and started to walk away...wait, that's $3.75 the woman said..but it says $3.00 on the cooler I said.

Well we add 8.25% tax and 18% tip.

It's not the 75 cents it's the principle somethimes.

Hell no! When I dine in I'm supposed to tip for the service. What am I supposed to tip for when picking up my take out?

Violetta 11-15-2007 03:46 AM

no... unless the girl giving me the food is EXTREMELY hot!

dissipate 11-15-2007 04:25 AM

Only at the place around the corner that i get take out from once a week.

deanberkeley 11-15-2007 04:27 AM

I don't tip when I pick up take out, though if they bring it to the car, or deliver it, then I will.

carol.prime 11-15-2007 10:14 AM

Elli 11-15-2007 11:10 AM

No, if I'm not eating in (using their wait staff) or eating out using their delivery driver, then there's noone to tip.

SmokeyTheBear 11-15-2007 11:16 AM

i don't eat take-out very often but when i do i tip the cook.

sweetcuties 11-15-2007 11:18 AM

I hate to say this but it depends if the girl is cute or we had some kind of repoire... basically, if she was friendly, why not :2 cents:

Cyndalie 11-15-2007 11:19 AM

If it's from a full blown restaurant than yeah. A take out place, no.

Sosa 11-15-2007 11:29 AM

only tip is when we are eating their and they wait on us.

CamZ 11-15-2007 11:34 AM

I don't tip on take out.....

gatorpower 11-15-2007 11:55 AM

Do you tip the people at McDonald's or Burger King for getting your drink, wrapping your burger and 'plating' your french fries? Me neither.

I'll tip a dollar or two if I ordered a salad and/or dessert as they have to special make those.

But if it's pretty standard, baked potato and sandwich, I don't see the point.

Part of the reason you tip a waiter/ess is because they take your order, refill your drinks, visit your table a few times and essentially spend time making your 'experience' comfortable. In any case, you tip AFTER the meal so as to give feedback on their performance.

Tipping the Pizza guy is different because I don't want him sitting on my couch for a half-an-hour while I eat, nagging me to change the channel to WWE wrestling. I tip him on the basis that pizza is pizza and the quality is generally known before you eat it.

Many times I've ordered curbside and the fries were soggy, the steak was undercooked and salad leafs were not crunchy. I can't just as well drive back and demand my hard-earned 80-cents back. So like I said, view it like you would the cashier at McDonalds or Burger King unless you know they had to do something really special.

Diligent 11-15-2007 12:00 PM

When I pick up, I eat out in order to get some action on my tip.. ;)

ShellyCrash 11-15-2007 12:14 PM

Usually only if they run the food out to the car. I'll tip on pick up at the counter only if I'm hooked up in some way.

Elli 11-15-2007 12:23 PM

What's this running food out to the car thing? I have never ordered at a restaurant that does that. Sounds pretty cool, though.

frostyimpressions 11-15-2007 02:09 PM

When I took to go orders I never expected a tip. However, I always remembered the people who did tip and always hooked them up with extra stuff when they'd come back.
