If you were trapped in a well, could your finger nails leave visible marks on the wal

If someone was scratching for their life on the concrete wall of a well, would there be visible marks as in the movie the ring?

I am remodeling a room and when I ripped up the floor, I found a trap door with a large concrete room under it. The room is circular, about 10ft across and 10ft deep. On the wall there appear to be scratch marks. I was able to fish out some small animal bones and can still see some larger bones. I have believed the house to be haunted for multiple reasons and this is confirming it. I also found a very old medical necklace still clasped near the opening. The room was added onto the house in 1914 - as that date and a name was written inside one of the walls in the above room.

um call the police?

papill0n 11-14-2007 07:18 PM

yes there could

Jayvis 11-14-2007 07:19 PM

wow thats something that would get TV footage... definitely look into it.

IllTestYourGirls 11-14-2007 07:19 PM

The answer to the first question is yes.. they could. If the owner of the house made the room it could be poor quality cement.

I'm not afraid, I have had so much strange shit happen in the house I had to quit telling people about it - they were starting to think I was crazy :) But if I do come to the conclusion that there was something foul going on, I will be calling the fuzz.

Loki 11-14-2007 07:38 PM

the concrete is over 100 years old - I can't reach the wall but concrete does become brittle over time, especially the stuff they made back then.

Get out the video camera......

have some girl down there.....

Have a man up top saying.....

Just a thought.

It might be interesting to have an investigator have a look at it..

Could have been for cold storage back then..

No doubt it can create all sorts of wonderment...

Maybe a local historian may have some insight..

and as mentioned... Calling the Ghost Busters is always an option... :)

Evil E 11-14-2007 08:07 PM

Do you have pictures of the bones?

Shoot some pics of the bones! What city is this house located ?

Edit: ooops, you did post the pics while I was writing this.

crockett 11-14-2007 08:26 PM

Well if it's animal bones maybe they had some sort of animal stuck down there. It's more likely a dog or something that would scratch the walls like that.

Regardless it's kinda freaky. Is that the only trap door? It doesn't seem to be positioned very well, in regards to the hole.

remember.. "It puts the lotion on it's skin or it gets the hose again"

the room was built on top of it but I can't figure out why the hole wasn't filled in or at least covered. Also, why cut a trap door unless you are planning to use the hole for something. As for the scratch marks, they appear to be too far apart to be a small animal. I was able to pull out a small skull that appeared to be a cat or something similar, but the other bones are too large to be from it.

Is the ground solid or is it just dirt in the bottom of the hole? Yea never know, maybe it was an old well years ago and was partially filled in before they built the room.

As far as the bones, I assume there is a crawl space under the house? Maybe cats and other animals were under your house and fell in. No way to get out so they died.

I can't tell if the floor is solid or not. It does look like a water tank, but I've never seen one this wide, this kind of a location (relative to the house) or this kind of set-up. The pipe in the pictures is not connected to anything and when I lift it a few inches and drop it the floor almost sounds hollow. I am now thinking there could be another opening under the pile of dirt. As for the bones, I pulled a small skull out by joining 2 push broom handles and taping a hook on the end but the bones in the picture appear too large to be from the same animal. I just shot some video, let me take a look and see if it shows anything new.

rowan 11-14-2007 10:04 PM

Are you game to go down there? Bring a friend or family member over so they can help. :)

ProjectNaked 11-14-2007 10:07 PM

this whole thing doesn't make sence - not a septic, not shaped or sized like a well, strange opening, stranger trapdoor above opening that was floored over to conceal.

gonna find me a lucky volunteer tomorrow to go into the abyss....

halfpint 11-14-2007 10:09 PM

Wow thats just mad how long have you lived in the house, before you realized that you had a trap door there , Is it shown in the any of the plans for the house

We have owned the house for about 10 years. My brother and I use it as a cottage when we are in Michigan. I have spent about 4 or 5 years total in it. As for plans, the house was built around 1900 - when I gutted the walls of the room with the trapdoor, I found where someone had written their name, the city, and Oct 28, 1914. This is one of the last rooms to be remodeled. It would figure this would happen as I was planning to knock this out quick. The room was added onto the side of the house I would assume to cover the "well" as I'm gonna call it. The strange part is that there is no cover to the "well" and why put a trap door in unless you are gonna use it. My mind is flying all over the place now. Gonna be a spooky night for sure :disgust

Evil E 11-14-2007 10:24 PM

Maybe you could rent the "well" to silent knight.

halfpint 11-14-2007 10:24 PM

Does sound strange and as you said they would normally fill the tanks in before buiding on top of it, Unless who ever knew it was there decided that it would make a good storage room or something, and the people who moved in after couldent be bothered to fill it in and just hid the door. Rather you than me going down there though..goodluck.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 11-14-2007 10:41 PM

i would have totally dove down in there by now already. i wish i had a cool as spot like that in my house...

Loki 11-14-2007 10:47 PM

AA is a nice place, I'm about an hour or so from T.C in the "Golf Mecca" city lol

anyway, been staring at the first batch of photos and tons of questions fill my mind..... (yours to i'm sure heh)

http://www.finalcutmodels.com/1.jpg
In this photo (or at least at this angle) it seems this is NOT the full opening of the "well" as you only see a small portion of the 'entry', have you check around the surrounding tiles to see if more cover?

http://www.finalcutmodels.com/2.jpg
(1)how deep would you say this thing is? just going by scratch marks (seem to be 3 scratches per marking) it would have to be shallow if they were made by an animal.

(2) What is the small white looking thing at the bottom center? (I read mention of a pipe somewhere is that it?) and if so is that plastic? if so that tells me it was 'added' in the last 50 years or so (wonder why???)

(3) In the dead center I assume that is dirt, you said you tapped down there and it sounded hollow? thats a bit odd seeing as there seems to be stonework (cement) all around it, this now reminds me of that movie..... ehh nevermind lol

One more thing, and call it a dumbass hunch lol

the very bottom cement it looks black in the photos, can you notice any SOOT or ASH anywhere around that area (mainly on the bottom)

and if so, check the "dirt" is it instead ash?
