National Net down...???

...how does this make you feel? :Graucho

First Like Whoa... now Nat Net... Historically, Candid <lol>. Really, if you've watched, I believe that every company has shown that it's only human and not inpenetrable.

The next time someone says they haven't had ANY downtime in a year or more.... won't even admit to a fart.... let's spank 'em cause they're lyin' or just plain ignorant.

Personally, as a small host, it's comforting to see giant hosts take a shit publicly every now and again. :321GFY

works here

Brad Mitchell 09-21-2002 10:39 PM

That's funny... still inaccessible from here. I'm not the only one, it's apparently the reason why SicCash has been down. Unless Detroit is in the Dark the other thread indicated they were offline since about 11pm EST... and it's 1:40am now.

Everyone has small problems once in awhile.

Sweet T and Natnet are a great company and pride themselves in Super Customer Service.

Fletch XXX 09-22-2002 12:22 AM

Not coming up here.

Nor are a few other sites.

EscortBiz 09-22-2002 12:26 AM

Down from NY,

I remember I had a calling card platform hosted at IDT they told me its impossible for it to go down because of UPS and Tanks and bullshit and 2 months after I started with them they where down for over 12 hours it came back up and then I ordered 8 T1's and did it myself.

Im not saying do it yourself im just trying to bring out the no downtime BS, everyone can have an outage

Dancing around when your competition is having temporary problems really makes you look like a scumbag.

The NatNet guys are one of the most respected hosting companies on the net. Their reputation speaks for itself. Shit happens to everyone, I'm sure they'll have everything running smoothly shortly!

I have to agree with Tanker.

Everyone has problems occasionally and one good way to judge a company is how they handle those problems. Nat Net is awesome, my downtime was minimal.

Another good way to judge is the frequency of problems, I can't remember a time when Nat Net was down.

Uhhhhhhh YEAH

I'm not kicking anyone while they're down.

"I believe that every company has shown that it's only human and not inpenetrable. " and "The next time someone says they haven't had ANY downtime in a year or more.... won't even admit to a fart.... let's spank 'em cause they're lyin' or just plain ignorant. "

I don't know how either of those could be misinterpreted. Did my post start off like a smartass? Maybe. Was it malicious? No. When I started the thread this pertinent news was buried at the end of another thread. Seemed obvious to me that it should have had it's own forum.

Just because you're stressed out that your sites were down and I posted that on GFY...don't shoot the messenger. Fuck, I thought they'd be up in 10 minutes too. I have always seen National Net as the largest and probably most reliable hosting company in our sector. They charge a premium and I am confident they are one of the few companies that is truly worth it. So to see them down it makes me think holy fuck, what happened. After all, it's every host's job to do proper contingency planning.

So if you think my purpose was to kick sand in someone's face then obviously you don't read much of what I post here on GFY. The question was what, if anything, can be learned from this. I thought the simplest lesson was an obvious one - every company both large and small is at best only human.

I have always gone under the impression, its the people who cant find humor in *your posts who dont like *you to begin with.

Since they are usually just displeased to see a post by you and rather than take it as it is, dig into a little looking for negativity.

Just my pennies though.

hehehe

:winkwink:

*you as in people in general, not You.

Brad

That's cool. I guess it was just part that seemed like you were gloating. Sometimes things on the board are misinterpreted.

And I'm not shooting the messenger, it was obvious the sites were down and everyone should be aware of what happened, for the very reasons you named.

Brad Mitchell 09-22-2002 10:33 AM

I wasn't gloating and I would never wish downtime on anyone. We all work our asses off and messing with someone's livelihood is no joke or laughing matter. There's enough business out there for everyone and I'm not one of those hosts that solicits people whilst they are having issues, that's low class. That doesn't mean I'll stay quiet when I feel like saying something though.

Quoting me on the first sentence of the post... or the last sentence of the post... is taking what I had to say COMPLETELY out of context. You were all pissed off and stressed out that your sites were down so you were taking it personally when it wasn't a jab to anyone. I'm not surprised that under those circumstances I would be misunderstood.

Undoubtedly all of your servers are in a multi-million dollar facility. I'm still wondering where it failed, if anybody knows what happened.

Brad

Nina 09-22-2002 10:39 AM

I certainly didn't mean to quote you out of contest either. But for me, if you had left out that sentence, I don't believe I would have misinterpreted what you said.

Now that I know where you are coming from I completely understand and have no problem with it. Like I said before, sometimes board communication is hard. I think it's good that we could clarify.

Brad Mitchell 09-22-2002 10:49 AM

It's all good! Like I said on the board when you teamed up with Lightspeed... they're lucky to have you! :) Conversely, I'm confident you couldn't have picked a better organization to work with. Surely, they're going to make you rich. lol

Cheers,

Brad

Rochard 09-22-2002 10:57 AM

Nat Net is located in Atlanta, and they got hit by a big storm Saturday night. It killer their power, as well as Nat Net's back up power. I think Nat Net went down at 10PM Saturday night. It looks like they were down for at least a few hours; Things seem to be back to normal and we are having a good sales day already.

Thanks so much Brad. I appreciate that. And it's nice to be able to work through a misunderstanding with someone on this board without it turning into a big blow out. You have certainly won my respect. :)

Like RocHard said, there was a big storm in Atlanta that night.
ChrisL posted this yesterday..

Hi there,

Due to a large storm, there was flooding in the Georgia Power vault of our
building and the power had to be shut off in face of 4 to 5 feet of standing
water. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Thanks,
Majied Najjar
