My thoughts exactly! One of my biggest pet peeves.

fuzebox 11-13-2007 12:12 PM

Very common in costa rica, and yes it's really fucking annoying.

D 11-13-2007 12:14 PM

Yeah... I just voice that sentiment.

"Ummm... you called me, buddy..."

polish_aristocrat 11-13-2007 12:14 PM

axelcat 11-13-2007 12:15 PM

Which is exactly what I say...

"Um... You called me chief".

Sly 11-13-2007 12:25 PM

I always just say "you called me... who are you?"

Quick tip in phone etiquette: if you call someone and another person answers the phone, simply ask if the person you are looking for is around. It's that simple.

frostyimpressions 11-13-2007 12:30 PM

When someone says that to me, I respond, "Who's asking?"

Stephen 11-13-2007 12:31 PM

yeah, my standard response is "if you don't know then you have the wrong number"

and I hang up

minusonebit 11-13-2007 12:31 PM

What I liked as this guy who called just about 3 hours ago, asked for "Shelly". I told him he had a wrong number and he was like "Wait, no I don't!" and I am like "Sir, there is no one named Shelly here. I am sorry, but you do indeed have a wrong number." and he started to argue some more and I just hung up. He called right back, I let him argue with my voice mail.

I say, if you won't identify yourself then we absolutely can't do business together. Usually it's prospective domain buyers in my case...

hey a quick question to you

do you prefer being called with offers/inquires about your domains or emailed?

does it happen that you ignore email inquires but are happy to talk on the phone about your names?

Shagbunny 11-13-2007 12:46 PM

i just hang up, even if its my own bro

Shagbunny 11-13-2007 12:47 PM

oops, i meant to be dog style... "even if its my own bra"

JohnnyJames 11-13-2007 12:51 PM

Caller: "Hi is Shelly there?"

"You have a wrong number"

Caller: "No, I DON'T"

"Okay, you're right. We produce porno movies and Shelly is busy on the set. Would you like me to have her call you when she's finished?"

Caller: "Okay, maybe I DO have the wrong number."

"And maybe you DON'T"

nAtuRaLbEautY 11-13-2007 01:00 PM

I prefer email at first but mainly due to the fact that I have my notes and domain spreadsheet on my pc. If I could get that on my Iphone I would be prepared to deal anywhere I was at the time.

I can honestly say I don't think I have ever done that to anyone. If I have it was so long ago I can't recall doing it.

Agreed in full on your response though. My reply to them is virtually identical to yours... "Uh, you're the one calling, let's start with who YOU are and who you're wanting to speak with."

In China, many phone calls start with "who are you"? rather than hello.

You guys have never had a friend call you from someone else's phone? People do that all the time to me, but I usually identify myself first.

"Hi, my name is... Did someone call me from this number?"
