Never been salmon fishing. I like to fish for catfish...you can do it at 3 in the morning while drinking and bullshitting, sitting in a boat or on the shore. Fly fishing always seemed too much like work to me.

On the west coast of Vancouver Island there is a redneck hillbilly town called Bamfield... If you are ever out this way hook yourself up for a charter, you can fly in from Vancouver or Victoria by float plane or drive in on a gravel road, bring mack jacket and gum boots to fit in...

30-50 lb Salmon are the norms... and you can get some big ass Halibut as well...

My bud Gord is so fucking drunk at 8 am off Bailey's and Coffee that he bonks the fucking salmon on the head with the net after I fought the bastard for 25 minutes... and the thing snaps the line in a last ditch effort and lay on its side stunned for a few seconds ( which seemed like an eternity ) then swam off...

I fucking near dove in after it....

If you dont care for roughing it there is some seriously lush fly in Salmon Lodges up here as well.

I once caught a 15 pound salmon on 5 pund test...I swam 100 yards of stream and untangled the fucker out of a submerged stump....

I have a 35 pounder on my wall I chased a mile downstream on 16lb test.

The largest one I ever cught was a sailfish down in Acapulco it was 155 lbs and 9ft 2 inches at the time it was 2 inches off the official record, mind you this goes back a few yrs :1orglaugh

I was at the "Carp Fishing World Cup " this week, as a viewer.
It was held here in Romania at Sarulesti, the place where 2 years ago was caught the biggest carp ever: 80lbs.

The total weight winners was an austrian team: 600lbs in 4 days
