A question for those in Mexico...
 

I'm heading down to PV for a few weeks after the LA show and I'm wondering how the locals down there feel about the US dollar. Should I show up with pesos or USD to pay taxi drivers, etc? I'm in Canada now, so I can switch my dollars to pesos before I head down, but I'm not sure if things have changed what with the USD doing its little dance. Anyone have any info or thoughts on this?

they feel good about the USD, the exchange rate is about 10.50 - 10.70 pesos / USD, USD being widely accepted. But I would change USD into pesos, while in Mexico.

pesos...doesn't matter if the USD is deemed lower or not. Always when in Mexico, use pesos and your credit card.

I've always used USD in Mexico. Even most of the ATMs offer you money in Pesos or USD.

If you are going to stay in Puerto Vallarta and not venture into the smaller surrounding towns, then USD will do you fine. However, expect to get your change in pesos, or not at all. They have no use for american coins there.

I've always used pesos, and when you go to the smaller villages, sometimes this is a better idea.

If you get a chance, you should visit Yelapa. Tell them a girl with red hair and tattoos sent you :P

The very best thing for you to do, and I LIVE in Mexico, is bring no more than 50 US dollars. Then when you arrive, grab your money from an BANK ATM. DO NOT use the ones at the hotels or stores. By using the ones at the bank you insure that the exchange from dollars to Pesos is the best for you.

You can use your card with no worries at the hotels and MAJOR food establishments, but I would NOT use it anyplace else. Use cash. And DONT carry more than about 3k pesos at any one time. thats about 280$ Just think of the money at 10 pesos to the dollar and the general math is easy.

Dollars will get accepted everywhere, but you'll always loose on the conversion.

change your pesos when you get into town. NOT the airport as they usually exchange it at a lesser rate..have fun, and be safe.
