Just arrived in Sydney, Australia - need broadband recommendations
just arrived in Sydney and need a fellow ozzie or two to recommend me a decent broadband provider...
I'm on this unwired service as a temp measure before I find a proper place to live and get a hardwired connection...but damn it's ghetto - I'm on a 12 GB per month download cap :1orglaugh:1orglaugh for $110 AUD I can't have this... so can anyone point me in the right direction of who to go with please? I'd prefer unlimited downloads if possible :error |
I dunno about Sydney providers, but yup get used to paying out the ass. Compared to what speeds/service you can get in other countries. :)

The cost isn't so much an issue man...it's just the speeds...and the download caps? I didn't know they even did this shit anymore
this is sure going to hold my work up while I'm out here, gotta be something better out there...anyone? |
Internode are one the best ISPs. What suburb are you in? If you are in an ADSL2 enabled region you can get decent speed... probably still not as good as what your are used to.
|
Ha ha ha
Want really fast and really good internet in Australia? Leave. :disgust |
Oh and I'm not aware of any ISP that does true unlimited ADSL at any decent speed.
|
TPG does full unlimited for businesses, $150 a month, it's pretty quick. I don't know, but for smaller use, and better reliability I think Optus is alot better than most.
|
Unlimited downloads is a mith in Australia. Unlimited really means 15-20GB then we're charge you $50 per GB after that. Thats if your lucky.
Most ADSL2 providers ask you signup for 12-24 months contract. Be award of the penetly rates if you brake the contract before then. Try not to use Telstra is you can, they change their rates every 2-3 months. One month your stilling pretty with 15GB taffic and the next month its 7GB, those fuckers can't make up their mind. Im with OptusDSL. www.optusnet.com.au - Pretty fair, 1500/256 . 20gb + 20gb off peak. $75 month. |
Try iiNet or Internode, they have higher download caps than Telstra etc.
|
Exetel are one of the cheaper ones, you get what you pay for, mostly it's fairly good though recently have had a few 10-30 min outages... pretty annoying when you're in the middle of doing something.
|
iiNet are who you want.
they've installed their own dslams, their network is great. 24Mbit/s down, 1Mbit - VOIP etc, all bundled. Don't even look anywhere else. |

got a bad feeling you're paying too much ;) |
Don't know when you were here quantum-x, but never seen a plan like that before. That would be pointless as the company would loose money from that account. Remembering, we're paying US rates + telco rates + reseller telco rates + extra charges.
http://www.iinet.com.au/products/broadband/plans.html $129 / month gives you 60GB total. |
telstra is best for speed, the rest is for them to scrape away at. Thank squatters rights and the fact we live in a tyranical society and i guess thats how sol trehio or whatever the stupid yankee fucks name is gets his $30million dollar handshake. Internet sux here man, I am currently working with my blacker brothers than I to kick some "respect" back upside thier heads. We plan to use the very loophole in Australian law which justifies every genocidal act commited to the last true caretakers of this wonderous earth. You would be best turning around and walking the other way, as we might just pop in and make ourselves comfortable wherever you lay in sanctity. Squatters rights, or say sorry - that is the choice. Pay with your false fucking pride or your life.
Yes, fly home you moron, it would be quicker for me to book a ticket and set up in romania than to do it here. We are the slowest - why? It fits with the plan to monopolise and capitalise in every way they can because we are among the lowest paid for such a nation of hard workers, and they wonder how pyramids were built.... geez, spend a year here and become a slave to societies empire. Fuck society, fuck the internet and fuck you. |

|
Basically anywhere you can get iiNet, you can get 24Mbit internet.
http://www.iinet.net.au/products/broadband/iinetwork/ ADSL [< 8mbit] http://www.cnet.com.au/story_media/3...-australia.jpg ADSL2+ [< 24Mbit] http://www.cnet.com.au/story_media/3...-australia.jpg |
Before you troll me further, compare that with 3G coverage [the ORANGE]
