Introducing the "Camel Spider"

http://www.camelspiders.net/

here is what happen:
I went to take out the trash, and from behind the trash bins one of these fuckers started running right towards me as fast as hell and when it reached my left shoe it stopped and went back a little.

I shit you not this one was somehow bigger than my foot, swear to god I don't know how it got that big

I can't prove it because I didn't think about filming it or anything like that, but I DID google for it to know what the fuck was that huge thing that can run so fast and made nearly soil my pants and this is what I've found.

fuzzylogic 11-09-2007 03:19 PM

those are not spiders but wind scorpions and grow no larger in the middle east than six inches.

if u believe they grow over a foot i have a bridge in arizona to sell u

i have a breeding group of 6 egyptian solifugae, and another 4 fuzzy solifugae. the egyptians are the largest solifigid species i know of, and only reach 6-7" in total body length max. there's not a whole lot known in the scientific community about these species yet, but they're making a break into north american hobbyist collections and more data is being collected now. crazy looking little fuckers. hoping to hatch out my first couple broods in a year or so. if you want to catch a handful of those iranian solifugae and ship them to canada, i'd be interested in buying some off you..

Jayvis 11-09-2007 03:27 PM

that scarys me.

i hate spiders and insects =(

you want to see vicious, you need to see some giant centipedes feed. my vietnamese giant subspinipes is a killing machine. moves fast, and takes down pretty large prey. i have fed him chrous frogs, and even fullsize freeze/thawed feeder mice before. by far the mos timpressive hunter in my collection...

it is not the size of the prey that impresses me. it's how the prey is consumed. to see a living roach being quickly sliced and diced by two scissors while hearing the noise that makes tops my bill of the most violent act i have seen in nature.

i have seen mantis, hamsters (lol), cats eating mice, spiders drink, snakes eat mice, crickets, little ants overwhelm big insects by stinging, centipedes grapple, wrap and bite... i have seen lots of things! but nothing, i mean nothing compares to the crude, quick and devastating horror of a wind scorpion eating. :2 cents:

*edit*
thats a big bug.
is it edible?

Persius 11-09-2007 04:13 PM

Damn those are huge!

he totals over a foot long, and i don't think i'd want to eat him, thought it could be possible. many cultures eat large bugsm tarantulas, beetle grubs, you name it. i am however pretty convinced that he wants to eat me. he looks at me with hate in his beedy little eyes sometimes...

Zuzana Designs 11-09-2007 04:31 PM

sweet! I have been checking these centipedes out in the local creepy crawler store.

I only have my singapore blue Tarantula for now and it's about 6 inches in diameter and munches on crickets.
