RSS suggestion for sponsors (ie OCCASH) with embeddable videos
I saw a couple sponsors (OCCASH first) offering embeddable flash videos with affiliate IDs. I suggest taking this a step further and offering RSS feeds with the flash player URLs add in the ENCLOSURE URL namespace
YouTube offers this.. see this feed: (sorry can't post URLs yet, so you have to copy and paste) youtube.com/rss/tag/music+videos.rss note: "music+videos" in the URL can be chaned to any keyword/phrase For affiliates wishing to publish RSS feeds on your sites, our software available at FeedAM.com you can do this easily. Example of YouTube RSS feed data published here: feedam.com/music_videos.php |
I think RogerV does this with porn pushers

Like this:
<enclosure url="VIDEO_URL_HERE" duration="68" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" /> |
bump for the cause

and again..

bumping...

Looks good, I didn't even know MediaRSS existed before this thread. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_RSS

I've done a bit of research into it, and although I probably haven't dug as
deep yet as needed there seems to problems with Media RSS. The RSS specs themselves are about as good as the ones I've written up (bad). There is no MUST/SHOULD/CAN/CANNOT so it's really ambiguious as to if RSS supports multiple enclosures per item. Thus readers implementation on this point has been sketchy. Whereas Atoms spec is a bit more highly polished and specifically allows multiple enclosures. It's promising, it does show the benefit of using a full-blown extension rather then a "usage principle" like I've been suggesting. Benefits including better describing each video, including keyworks etc. -Ben |
