My daughter wants an Audi A4

Any owners here that can offer some opinions?

I was planning on getting her a BMW 3 series, but she really wants the Audi.

Allhdreview - Jasin 11-09-2007 10:21 AM

Your daughter has good taste in cars :)

florin 11-09-2007 10:23 AM

I would choose the Audi, too

Yea, my daughter wanted a BMW. She got an old Chevy Caprice. Learn to drive on the ice first...

wdsguy 11-09-2007 10:24 AM

How old is she?

I'm not telling you how to raise your kids but I really don't think any parent should get their kids luxury cars. How is that going to help them learn the value of hard work? Everything that I've had I've worked and paid for my entire life.

BradM 11-09-2007 10:24 AM

I have the 2007 A4 2.0T, and we are suing, it's a bad lemon. This isn't the only one.

Fuel pumps die in the middle of the freeway. I have seen A6, Q7 all sorts of Audis on the side of the road in orange county. Stock tires are awful, brakes are horrendous.

Go for the BMW, I wish to hell I had.

how do you know his daughter isn't a hard worker does great in school and other stuff, isn't an all around good daughter? maybe she deserves a decent car, get with the times man, when i have a kid i'll most likely buy them a good car for their 16th birthday, even though when i turn 16 i was told to get a job, and got a shitty car

I'm far from a car buff but I can tell you my brother (2005-2006 approximately) had one and his tires would warp - had them changed 3 times in about 15-18 months. The first time he went into a ditch because of a blowout - luckily nothing happened. They claimed the first time was a 'fluke'. The second time - they claim was the heat on the asphalt roads (but we 'do' live in Montreal and it's not THAT hot) - by the third time, they figured out he was an SOB lawyer so he got out of the lease with no problems + some 'reimbursement' & he got the BMW SUV.

Yea we will get out of this also no question. Had too many problems with it.

She's in college, and is doing an internship now with the district attorneys office. A few more years and she will hopefully pass the BAR exam. So she has worked very hard and continues too. I made a deal with her that as long as she does well in school and does NOT get arrested,I would help her financially.
Her first car I bought her when she turned 16 was a new Eclipse. I do agree, that 16 year olds don't deserve luxury cars.

Violetta 11-09-2007 10:59 AM

I love audi's! :) Much better than bmw

MaDalton 11-09-2007 11:06 AM

i'd take the Audi too ;)

That's good info. OEM conti's are usually garbage so that I plan on the first year. But i hadn't heard that there were brake or fuel pump issues. Looks like it's time for some serious research then. I drove BMW for 12 years and still have a 328 cabrio and all of them were rock solid cars. I had a few minor issues with the last one which was an M3smg but nothing serious.

I have owned 2 bimmers, and I have been a FANATIC for years. I absolutely love BMW. But I bought the Audi because in its class nothing compares feature wise and for the price and reputation they had I thought... let's give them a try.

So I know the feeling and I just wish I had known then what I know now.

fuzebox 11-09-2007 11:23 AM

The Audi will be cheaper than the quattro is nice for a female driver who lives in Michigan (*flamesuit on*), but I had no idea they had problems like that... I'm more familiar with the older ~2002 era a4/s4s.

I lost enthusiasm when Bangle took over the designs but now it seems his influence is starting to fade. Last summer(2006) I traded off the M3 for a new MB E55amg and so far,it's been my favorite daily driver. It does everything as it should. I'm not as big of a fan of the E63 though and may switch back to BMW again next year and go with an M5.

Your daughter is lucky to have such a nice dad. We gave my daughter a beat-up old pick-up truck. Strangely, she has done nothing about getting her learner's permit...

Tia and I were looking at one before we picked up the bmw, and my uncle (who runs a towing company) told me they're forever picking Audi's up along side the road changed my mind. I'm very glad we picked up the 330, it's been a very reliable and comfortable car

I've been talking to my daughter on the phone this afternoon. I think her biggest issue with BMW is the fact that i've driven them so many years and she see's it as an OLDMANS car. I told her she was wrong. I drive mercedes now and that's the oldmans car. :)

Kids.....

You've been a dad how long?

I thought everyone our age knew... you can't tell kids they're wrong.

It does not compute.

That's an excellent point CD. I wonder what I was thinking about when I said that to her. I do know better.

GAMEFINEST 11-09-2007 02:35 PM

Audi's are bad ass

ServerGenius 11-09-2007 02:35 PM

The RS4 is better than a M3 hands down.....oh it has 100Bhp more than the
beamer. It's a safer car, it has better handling, it's more comfortable and it
looks classier.....The engine of the RS4 is probably 1 of the best engines ever
made......8000Rpm from a V8, 4 wheel drive....I could go on and on......

The bad stuff written above about audi's A4 are all things you could
encounter in the "entry" A4 models the entry beamer models have their
problems too......none of that will you ever experience in the RS4 though..

Yep. You probably had to be around a while or at least post on PornCity to know Minte and his background. Minte's Bikini Page was one of the very first sites I hit back in the late 90's when I first got started. Then there was the "Haywood Jablowme" years, and now he's a mod over at porncity.

Minte, did you ever end up selling the bikini pages?

No Cd,couldn't do it. Being my first site,it's still worth more to me than I think anyone else would ever be willing to pay. You know how that is.

I have the A8, great choice for her. The convertible A4 is nice too but that is up to you. She has good taste. :thumbsup

Phil 11-09-2007 02:49 PM

your girl needs to get a job not Audi.

rip raster 11-09-2007 02:50 PM

I'm not sure about the A4 but I have driven an older model S4 (2000 - or2001) with the squential twin turbos. Now that car was a real treat to drive, it had power in every gear no matter how low the rpm's were and the handling was impecable. Drove it up to Whistler and even in the snow it was difficult to kick out the rear end.

I have owned 4 BMW's and still have one (old school e30 325 with lots of performance mods) I will probably never sell that car, I have had it for nearly 20 years and has always been really solid and reliable. It has taken a beating over the years and still runs great although I havn't driven it in a few years. It needs a paint job and a few other minor repairs. I will most likely do a full restoration on it and add a few more performance mods in the near future.

The only reason that I havn't been driving it is that I have a Jeep that I have as my daily driver now that is more suited for my needs at the moment. I don't really do all that much driving anymore and I couldn't justify having both vehicles insured when I would only drive the beemer a few times a month. Plus I couldn't really take the dog in the beemer as I would be constantly worrying that he would damage the leather or something else and he would get fur over everything. I don't have to worry about that sort of thing in the Jeep I don't even have carpets in it so when it gets dirty I can just hose it out, pull the drain plugs out of the floor and viola good as new ;)

My personal prefrence would be the BMW over the Audi, and from reading some of the responses in this thread the BEEMER would be the car to go with, but it seems that your daughter is really set on the Audi. I guess you will have to do a little more research to make sure you don't end up buying her a headache indtead of a good reliable vehicle.
