Wide screen monitors

I had thought about getting 2 wide screen monitors to replace my standard size 19 inch monitors.

However I bought a laptop not long ago that has a 15 inch wide screen and it's actually kinda annoying. Reason being, is because it seems to just take away from the height to make up for the wide screen.

Is that the way they work on desktops as well? Meaning when you look at a webpage it cuts more off at the bottom causing you to have to scroll more.

Yea maybe it's just because the laptop is only 15 inch. It just seems like I didn't have to scroll as much on my old laptop that has a standard 15 inch screen.

Yup... you'll lose some vertical space with a widescreen.
I like my wide screen for writing code as I can see more per line, but for browsing and such, I prefer my normal monitor.

I am using them as a dual set up right now, which is kinda messed up.... but at the same time, makes sense... at least to me.

It's because screens are measured diagonally, so the dimensions are different. It works that way with TVs too. Standard TVs and monitors are 4:3 whereas widescreen TVs are 16:9 and widescreen monitors are 16:10. A 32 inch HDTV is not going be as tall as a 32 inch standard TV. You'll need a 37 inch widescren to get the same height.

As far as your monitor to get the same height as a 19 in standard monitor you'll need a 22 inch widescreen.

Love my Samsung 22 incher. Got one at home and then went to work and could not handle anything less, so I got one for the office too (and a second monitor too)

Wide screen is fun... much more space for the tools in programs and whatnot. I like it.

I use 2.

My main monitor is a 36" HDTV and the other is a 21' flat screen.

I don't know what its called, but roy installed a vid card that allows me to use one CPU/mouse/keyboard for both monitors. Very handy.
