Whats a good firewall to get?
 

Preferrably one thats really cheap.

My machine has started "wirring" like crazy a few times today and my paranoia is telling me that I'm getting hacked.

I have been using sygate personal FW for a while now.

I must say I am very happy with it (its free)

If you have an old machine laying around, you can make one yourself:

for a software one get zonealarm the basic version is free and should do the job for you

if you want real security get a hardware router with builtin firewall

it so much easier to just get a decent router with protection,,
anything you put in the same computer that you work on can slow your machine down

Playa is right. I use Zone Alarm Pro from time to time but everytime I format my hard drive I leave it off for a while and just use my firewall/router to handle that so I can feel the refreshing burst of speed an unloaded computer brings you.
