my 1st tattoo
so I'm going to get my 1st tattoo but I'm not sure what I'd like to get tattooed,
I really like Maori tattoos (ta moko), but I heard getting such a tattoo was considered as an insult to their people... I like tribal tattoos in general, but I want something original and unique. I also thought of getting tattoed my twin sister's name, but I'm not sure it's a good idea. I also though of getting tattooed "21st century". any thoughts/suggestions/success story/advice ? http://www.tamoko.org.nz/artists/uru...llery/mati.jpg |
I like it .. nice work
|
I've always liked that style. I don't think it would be an insult to anyone. I'd get something like that
|
looks good
|
its cool, sweet tat
|
very nice tats:thumbsup
|
Shouldnt the tat pick you, I mean have some sort of reasoning or significance?
If anything I think I would go with a best used by date, or at least an expiration date. |
Thats some serious ink for a first tattoo, congrats!

Best thing is actually not knowing what you want and go shop for artists. I see you are in Montreal.
May I suggest you go visit one of these 2 shops. www.imagotattoo.com or www.studiotattoomania.com/site.html I know both owners and these are the best shops around IMHO. |
cool looking tat

Firstly this Moko is not entirely Maori as it has some other pacific aspects in there. Secondly you are correct in a way about the "tikanga" (principles) behind acquiring Ta Moko. It is usually done with a holistic viewpoint (spiritual or geneaology based) and tells a story or relates to happenings. So with that in mind for it to be genuine you would need some thing to base it on, being Maori is probably a good idea. However they do look good and if that is what you want well who am I to say you shouldn't. |

Tattoo the twin sisters name in a cool style embedded into some ta moko
|
looks pretty good :winkwink:

Make sure when you get a tat it's what you really want and don't rush into it just to get one, an don't get something off one of the boards at the parlor that's called being a follower. Be original make your own design and then work with the tat artist on getting just right. So many people have the style you want change it up so it fits your personality. Oh and they hurt really fucking bad. Good luck:winkwink:

I thought long and hard (10 years) to pick mine out. The key is what many have said it has to be about you. There is nothing worse then picking something cause it looks cool only to hate it later.
I traced my family history back and found an old war badge from my Scottish clans. found an awesome artist that made it a bit more modern and have been so happy with it since. |
If you have to ask other people what they think then you aren't ready to get a tattoo.
You're supposed to get a tattoo because its what you want permanently on your body, not because its currently a cool thing. |
Those Maori tatoos are pretty cool indeed..
|
bad ass! tattoo ;)
|
I don't generally like tattoos at all....
but this is the most beautiful thing I think I've ever seen: http://content.answers.com/main/cont...Treetattoo.jpg |
good lookin'!
|
that looks ugly, man
|
If you are going to get a tribal tat you should have someone draw it for you, so it will be an orignal. Think about what you want and visit a couple of tattoo shops. Find someone that will design a custom piece for you.
