Crowded theater or empty theater, which one do you prefer?

Me, I prefer an empty theater. I love showing up on a Friday afternoon and hardly anyone there. I can now spread out, relax, and get up to take a piss if I want to and not have to worry about stepping on someone's toes on the way out.

Back in LA I had friends who were movie snobs...they would hiss at the commercials before the previews...they also felt that you just couldn't get the movie experience without full attendance.

They said that the funny scenes were heightened because of the audience laughter...so they would pretty much only go to a movie on either opening night, or the first Friday thereafter, and go the a showing that would guarantee a full theater. They would also choose a location like on the 3rd st Promenade in Santa Monica where the theaters are never empty.

Empty every time. I always get the tallest mofo in the cinema sitting right in front of me when it's busy...

Empty. Nothing like putting your legs up over the row in front of you and putting up the arm rests to you can take up three seats, plus the drink holders for the seats on either side.

Crowded theaters are good for comedy movies, otherwise empty is better. It's like watching the simpsons, it's always funnier when you're watching it with someone.

Crowded with hot girls.

home theater

bhutocracy 11-06-2007 04:11 AM

crowded only if i can have a sniper rifle with night vision to pick off the 15 year olds that won't shut the fuck up.

bhutocracy 11-06-2007 04:16 AM

crowded theatres are probably the single biggest reason for the rise of home cinema. Or young teenagers in cinemas that have to laugh and make loud comments the moment anything even vaguely uncomfortable happens on screen, like a kiss or sex scene.
The only time I go is on sunday afternoons at 1pm... or the expensive ones, especially the ones that serve beer and dinner so you're guaranteed no kids or idiots are in there at $30 a ticket... other than that why bother.. for 1-1.5k you can have a 3m projector at home of sufficient quality to get the same effect even if it's not the best.

Vitasoy 11-06-2007 06:08 AM

Empty if I had the choice

quantum-x 11-06-2007 06:20 AM

Empty - literally completely.
You run the sound the projection and the whole affair - smoke, drink, dance on the chairs, whatever you want. Cinema has never been so good.

Fuck I miss my cinema.

VeriSexy 11-06-2007 10:04 PM

I prefer it empty

bausch 11-06-2007 10:06 PM

I actually prefer crowded, super crowded like on opening day. It's fun. It's the only "social outing" I do, so I like to people watch. I don't go to clubbin, bars, I'm not sociable enough for that, so movies is the "social" activity for me for the week.

bronco67 11-06-2007 10:48 PM

Depends on the movie.

Character drama or indie...I like to be by myself.

Blockbuster dumb ass popcorn movie....I like a noisy crowd that I can "experience" the movie with.

beemk 11-06-2007 11:20 PM

empty...
