Kandahar - $2100/day jobs (would you go?)

Lately a local radio station here in Niagara has been advertising jobs (mostly private security positions) for Kandahar. $2100/day they're paying.

If its a 3-month contract...question is - would YOU go?

After Shock Media 11-04-2007 03:47 PM

Is it through blackwater?

L-Pink 11-04-2007 03:48 PM

ammo included?

TeenSluts 11-04-2007 03:48 PM

nope .. . .. .

Fat Panda 11-04-2007 03:49 PM

yes I would go! Can I bring my laptop? And still write about porn?

Sami 11-04-2007 03:51 PM

For $2100 /day ?

Ofcourse!

Who wouldn't?

Anyone that plays in the casinos or lottery or any sort of gambling would have a much much better odds making profit through this job opportunity :1orglaugh

Klen 11-04-2007 03:51 PM

You mean per week?It cannot be per day.Plus what i sense of big salary since you wont survive and then they wont need to pay you.

Not through blackwater, no. They're local Cdn. security firms.

And no, it was per day...not a weekly rate.

Donkey Punch 11-04-2007 03:58 PM

I'd rather make $21 a day sitting in my safe comfy chair ;)

MaDalton 11-04-2007 04:00 PM

nah - not even if it would be per hour

buzzy 11-04-2007 04:01 PM

Yes, I'd go for $2100 a DAY.

sortie 11-04-2007 04:04 PM

If I didn't write code then I would definitely do it.
It's worth getting killed for that much. hehehe.

WiredGuy 11-04-2007 04:06 PM

I thought the average contractor made 10-20k/month.
WG

papill0n 11-04-2007 04:11 PM

That is definitely the correct wage. My friends husband is earning 60$k a month as a defence contractor in Iraq. The stress he is putting his wife through is enormous. The woman looks like she has aged 5 years in 5 weeks. I think it is preety selfish and I wouldn't risk my life for any amount of money.

KingK7 11-04-2007 04:12 PM

Whats that, 200 euros a day now?

Xrated J 11-04-2007 04:13 PM

i would.

security contracts get paid much more. Life and death situations daily :warning

clickhappy 11-04-2007 04:22 PM

No Way. They showed a video of a truck driver driving down some road over there. The camera was inside his truck and he was getting shot at constantly. he was freaking out.
I felt bad for him, Id be flipping out.

Brad Mitchell 11-04-2007 04:24 PM

If they paid our soldiers 1/5 of that they'd have a nice 200% raise.

StarkReality 11-04-2007 04:30 PM

Would I risk my like daily for 2k ? Definitely NOT ! The reason why they pay that much is that the odds of getting killed are even higher than for a soldier.

xmas13 11-04-2007 04:31 PM

2.1k a day is twice the average monthly income after taxes in Indiana, hugeeeeeeeeeee :2 cents:

xmas13 11-04-2007 04:32 PM

We risk our lives everyday by taking our car......

CreatineGuy 11-04-2007 04:32 PM

lol... giving away your life for 2k daily... that's very stupid...

Not to say the soldiers aren't worth it (which would be foolish of course since I'm ex-military myself) - but we're talking of two groups of "they" (as in those who pay).

Government (taxpayers) vs. private contractors.

My understanding of Blackwater down in the U.S. is they tend to hire poorly trained, unqualified Rambo-wannabes who lack the discipline and self-control to conduct themselves appropriately in theatre.

Whereas in Canada, the government is giving preferential consideration to a security firm that employs retired ex-military personnel.

Not to say either system is perfect, of course. But Canada seems to be maintaining a little more diligence and selectiveness in who we send.

Basic_man 11-04-2007 05:02 PM

That's 189 000$ for 3 months... I guess it worth a little risk!

Vox 11-04-2007 06:50 PM

My buddy just finished his third tour (3 years) in Afghanistan. he didn't make as much working as a refrigeration mechanic but 100k+ a year still ain't too shabby and he can finally buy a house.

Here's some pics from over there.

This is how you put an air conditioner out of it's misery

soulbleed 11-04-2007 06:54 PM

talk about taking a big risk.

i guess if u have nothing going for you over here then it would be an option

ProjectNaked 11-04-2007 07:04 PM

with legal immunity getting pulled for private security expect pay rates to go up.

SmokeyTheBear 11-04-2007 07:45 PM

u would be better off robbing a bank

Hmm...dunno if I could equate spendin' 3 months doing security in Kandahar with robbing a bank.

Maybe I've seen too many episodes of Cops where things don't go as planned for the dude in the ski mask. :1orglaugh

2012 11-04-2007 07:55 PM

minusonebit 11-04-2007 07:56 PM

SilentKnight 11-05-2007 03:46 PM

ianlester 11-05-2007 05:08 PM

189k for 3months is not a bad deal.... if you live... but I can only imagine how much the security company is making.

polphill 11-05-2007 05:26 PM

DaddyHalbucks 11-05-2007 06:08 PM

It's alot of money, and money makes people do crazy things.

Luc Lone Ly 11-05-2007 06:13 PM

yes. i do

GreyWolf 11-05-2007 07:12 PM

Damn yes - would like to do the Kandahar run, but not bothering about a job, nor covering some corrupt govt officials ass. They can look after themselves.

More just to see the place, get a feel of the undercurrent - and prob see that Afghans are no different to people in Flensburg, Michigan or Rio.

Pity - that's another bombed country which suffered, they were promised much, but the promises were all talk. So... they are back to poppy fields, (or the Bank of bin Laden), to earn a living....

dig420 11-05-2007 10:20 PM

why would I take a cut in pay to go to that god-forsaken shithole?

2012 11-05-2007 10:24 PM

Makaveli 11-05-2007 10:38 PM
