My ex-girlfriend was born in Mexico City, therefore, she elected to maintain dual citizenship. It was our plan to eventually secure a home there, since she could rather seamlessly.

To make a long story short, we are no longer together, but I intend to go through the somewhat cumbersome process of becoming a resident regardless. My intent is to eventually move my money off-shore and make Mexico the base of my operations. Of course, my justification for this is to maximize the milage of my savings, and to retire 2 decades sooner than I would if I remained in the states.

A cabin. A mountain of books. A gun. Selective thinning of the herd.

Soon.

I'm gonna invent the ultimate webmaster recliner sometime in the future....

but that's about all.

nice

Pornwolf 09-20-2002 02:22 AM

Hmm... it seems Labret has 'special' plans. Hopefully I stay out of his plans.

I have several businesses growing out of control... which is a good thing. I will be streamlining my work habits so I can triple my output. Hopefully I can do this while continuing my 12 post a day average on GFY. That will be the real task.

CDSmith 09-20-2002 02:22 AM

I had serious visions last night of selling out, buying Minte's motor home and heading out for the open road. The RV way of life. You know.

What about living on a boat somewhere hot? Are you planning to stay in TO or are you open to relocation?

The cabin thing is being considered too. As I get older, people around me are starting to drive me crazy with their tremendously annoying idiocies. I've about had it with the city.

frankfortuna 09-20-2002 02:22 AM

Do you intend to remain in Canada? Pardon me if I'm in error, but if my memory serves me correctly that's where you are currently located.

Rocky 09-20-2002 02:23 AM

Myself, i'm just getting started. So just trying to move forward and get more involved at this stage. But someday, i'll probably be posting on a similar thread.

Yes, I was talking to you. For some reason I thought you were in TO, not sure why.

You're talking to the right guy though, because I tend to dream large. More to shoot for. Anyway, something that has appealed to me is the Grand world cruise. It's something like 5 months or more, on a huge luxury liner that takes you across the pacific, there are 3 to 5 day land tours at Australia, China, Thailand, Africa, the Holy Land (when safe to do so), etc etc. On those side excursions you leave the ship for some days or a week and then meet up with it at a different point. What a freaking amazing trip that would be.

The deluxe stateroom packages were around $50 - $90k, and the penthouse suites were like $110k.

Another cruise that got me going was the Amazon river cruise. 3 Weeks that includes certain Caribbean islands, S American stops, then up and down the Amazon river.

I've never been on a cruise, and I know that some people don't prefer them. I plan on taking one some day though.

i've only been on one cruise before (with some family). lots of fun, and very easy to enjoy.

but as far as this trip goes, it's 18 months of full on travel. so i'm going everwhere. alot of it's going to be pretty unplanned - ie: point to a country and go there.

have you heard about this new ship they're building where you can actually buy a condo on the boat? it continuously circles the globe, and you live there full time. definitely interesting. can't find the link....

Freedom Ship it's called.

http://www.freedomship.com

I saw a documentary about it. I'd love to get a place there, once i'm a little more successful. Truely is amazing. Multi level shopping centres, a casino, and the deck is a landing strip for a small aircraft (38-40 passengers).

Is OA planning another move now? hehe. Too rich for my blood, but hopefully one day. The website doesn't do it much justtice either. The doco i watched, had high detailed scale models, and rooms they had built as they'd appear on the boat once completed. If it turns out looking anything as good as they've shown it to be so far, it'll be absolutely beautiful.

lol... no... I'm staying put right here.... but that freakin' ship is nothing short of awesome. I'd love to see the docu on it....

chodadog 09-20-2002 03:17 AM

Quiet, it might actually be worth your while to contact them, as the project isn't actually definete as of yet. The more interest from serious investors/buyers shown, the more likely it is to go ahead. And i'm assuming you're in a position to purchase one of their higher end resedential apartments. :winkwink:

BJ 09-20-2002 03:18 AM

yes saw that as well, The thing is mammoth, 747's can take off and land on it, I guess you can pre-pay for one of the condos now for a cheaper price. Not sure what happens if it doesnt get built though.

Pornwolf 09-20-2002 03:36 AM

Last week I saw a ship docked here in NY that had apartments on it. It was huge! I'm not sure if it's the same ship or not but there's one in the water already.

Jakke PNG 09-20-2002 03:44 AM

As soon as I graduate (might take a few years though), I will move the fuck out of finland. :)
It's cold, expensive, and the taxes are killing me.

I will move to caribbean, or far-east... doesn't really matter from where I do this, as long as it's cheap, warm and no/little taxes. :thumbsup

If built how long do you guys seriously think it would be before that boat sinks?

They say that pretty much the most dangerous thing facing the freedom ship is a tidal wave. Other than that, it's not going to go down easy. It's somewhere in the vacinity of a 3 billion dollar project, i think they'd be doing their research before they actually went and slapped some materials together, don't you? lol

BVF 09-20-2002 05:50 AM

I'm seriously considering moving out of the country this summer. I can't take the boring atmosphere around here. I thought that once you didn't have to work, things would be great. Well, everybody I know still has to work. Some have to work two jobs. So I sit here all fucking day bored.

At first I was considering Africa but I might go to one of the outer islands of the bahamas. All I want to do is walk around on the beach, get some sun, drink rum, smoke weed, and sleep.

Yeah, just like Titanic.

hershie 09-20-2002 07:02 AM

last November I took off for almost 3 months of backpacking around S.E. Asia (Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Vietnam).

It didn't require any major re-direction in my life nor a huge chunk of retirement money. I am 37, and friends thought it was a bit wierd to go away for this long, but, I say if you can't retire young because of finances, and rather then feel the need to make major changes, little extended time-outs like my trip help you feel like you are seeing the world without too much disruption or re-direction to your life. I am already planning my next trip.

Jer 09-20-2002 07:11 AM

quiet, don't forget Brazil in your world trip. But when I say Brazil I'm not talking about Rio de Janeiro.

I'll graduate this year in advertising. I'll plan to save some more money and move to there my girlfriend lives (1600 miles / 3000km away from Sao Paulo). I love that city ! I love the beach, the weather, everything. I feel like another guy when I get out of the plane. I'll be just 21 in November, so I have to work a lot.

But one thing I know for sure is that I'll travel all around Brazil in a 4x4. I don't know when, but I'll. I love my country.

I'll keep working with internet. I'm since I was 15. I have lots of projects that I'll launch next year.

My life is just starting. But I feel great !

Jer

Well, I made the move from Canada to Europe for 7 months, so I guess that would have to be a fairly new direction. It looks like we will be pretty permanent here for the next few years, but we will still spend summers in Canada.

I am getting married in June which I think I would also consider a new direction, new but good. :thumbsup

The Freedom Ship might or might get built. However there already is a ship called The World that is more or less a floating condominium. Here are some links:

I'm planning on filling the void left by quiet when he retires..
they are big shoes to fill but someone gotta do it :)

cherrylula 09-20-2002 08:14 AM

I've been starting to fantasize about farmhouses in the middle of lush green fields.

No parking tickets, no sirens blazing by. Somewhere we can point the speakers out the windows and blast some rock tunes, hang out in our underwear and feel the breeze. Plant a garden and build muscle cars. No fucking neighbors for miles and a huge kitchen with enough food for three months without going to the store. No worries about criminals harrassing me, stealing windshield wipers off my car (this happened last week).

I'm starting to seriously hate so cal.

<IMX> 09-20-2002 08:45 AM

I need to dedicate more years to various pursuits. I am working for my progeny, not my self. I want to live forever, and I will do it through laying a foundation for their success.

Once their future is secure *poof* no trace will be left of myself, like Kaiser Soze more myth than man will remain.

Me, anonymous credit cards, a few satellite phones and swiss bank accounts. There is a whole world to explore...
