Doesnt matter, works on evaporation and condensation. Same trick using a different method can turn your piss into drinking water too.

Your knowledge is surprising me.. I have never thought of that. But back in our grand-grandmothers' time it often happened they used it to wash their face to look better... and some guys drank it. uhm, not my kind of drink.

This can also come in handy if you ever find yourself trapped in a elevator :1orglaugh

Big_Red 10-31-2007 04:12 PM

thats awesome. hope i never have to use it.

L-Pink 10-31-2007 04:16 PM

All kidding aside, I am going to test this tonight. Wonder if there is a difference between needle and leaf trees? :2 cents:

rowan 10-31-2007 04:21 PM

Wouldn't it be fun if you discover 14 hours later that your bag has a hole in it. :Graucho

It works on evaporation as I stated and a greenhouse effect. You will get much less liquid out of pine needles than full leaves. Larger the leaves of the plant the more liquid you will extract.

Do not expect more than a few tablespoons max inside such a bag situation. Jars and syran work better. Or you better your odds if needed and use more than one collection system.

I have this asinine talent that allows me to retain a near infinite amount of typically useless information that is never really needed that often outside of such a weird place like gfy where any topic may come up.

Bad part is though that if something comes up that I do not understand or know I will then spend time looking it up and learning about it. Only though if it is obscure shit. My book shelves would make most say

That would be fucked :helpme

Anyway, I love these "survivor" tips. You just never know when this would come in handy. Also, if you can get the series "Man vs. Wild" on cable, check it out. I love that show.

After watching these I would venture to say it is all bullshit. Plus, he seems to look for excuses to drink piss.

Spunky 10-31-2007 08:08 PM

That's quite the trick..I didn't know that

Why, it is a real cool talent :thumbsup I do enjoy your posts.. like of Gene's.

sortie 10-31-2007 08:40 PM

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

That is some serious ownage!

The guy probably went crazy trying to keep the locals in Hawaii out of the shot.

I barley ever venture past a bar in waikiki and have still seen much of that shit.

Drake 10-31-2007 09:26 PM

How does a con artist like this get a show on Discovery? Unreal. It sucks to think you're watching and learning something genuine to find this out.

tony286 10-31-2007 09:30 PM

that was interesting.

calibra 11-01-2007 12:42 AM

Damn, it's so simple (when you know it).

It can get very annoying. Often I find myself biting my tongue or not speaking out around certain people (dumbing down) so that they do not get the feeling I know everything which is something I do not want anyone to think. With some I can be my real self, however often people get the wrong idea or I rub people wrong since I can come off as a know it all or an authority on to many subjects.

Antonio 11-01-2007 01:00 AM

hm, half a litre of water from 5-6 leaves??? I don't think so, you'd be lucky if you get like half a glass in 14 hours

Shit the video actually said that?

I have seen a few tablespoons caught in a bag or about a quarter cup in a glass jar. Nowhere near enough of what you need if your in that bad of a situation.

sumphatpimp 11-01-2007 05:26 AM

you are in the forest, lost. no food or water. where did the plastic bag come from? you forgot the food and water but remembered the plastic bag? or did FEMA drop it from a black helicopter?

who 11-01-2007 05:31 AM

This is an old aboriginal trick my gramps taught me when I lived with him in uranquinty.

Vitasoy 11-01-2007 05:44 AM

That is pretty darn cool

Sadly you will often find liter wherever you go.

If your in the forrest though and dehydrating, you have much bigger fucking issues. Most anyone with some basic comon sense should be able to survive in a forrest, only big issue would be if it was winter time. Then water is not an issue anyways, it would be fire.

u-Bob 11-01-2007 05:52 AM

the Chilean special forces use a similar trick to distill their urine :)

VeriSexy 11-01-2007 06:51 AM

interesting.. i'm going to try it

Yanto 11-01-2007 08:24 AM

I am going to try it. but the leaves of the coconut trees are too far up above.

Zeta 11-01-2007 08:49 AM

Ill try that too

C_U_Next_Tuesday 11-01-2007 09:47 AM

Im going to try this next time Im out hiking in the summer season. I hate messing with a water purifier.

Well, I know after watching his show for the first time I found it to be rather odd the stunts he was pulling, and even came here to talk about it.
