Scariest kids movies?

Of course inspired by tomorrow's date....

What do you remember being the scariest kids movie when you were a kid.

I don't know if it was the scariest but the other day I saw an advertisement for the Care Bear Movie 2 and I flashed back to just how scary the first Care Bear Movie felt when I was a kid..particularly at the end.

Not an out and out kids film but I can't see a fuzzy tv glow without thinking about it. Most of the followups were okay. My Grandma still talks about having nightmares about sliding into a pool after watching them.

calibra 10-30-2007 07:15 AM

King fucking Kong. I was shitting my pants when lying in bed and imagining the fucking monster staring at my window.

SykkBoy 10-30-2007 07:44 AM

The Black Couldron
The Last Unicorn was actually pretty damn dark too, despite the poofster DVD cover...

atom 10-30-2007 07:45 AM

Something Wicked this way comes
Never Ending Story
The damn Sleepy Hollow animated short from Disney

Jman 10-30-2007 07:46 AM

Gremlins although I thought it was fricking hillarious.

Sarah_Jayne 10-30-2007 08:06 AM

Gremlins was a B horror movie for kids. Had some scary moments for sure.

SmokeyTheBear 10-30-2007 10:44 AM

i think the movie is called "the watcher" or "watcher in the woods"

really scary , its ok for all ages ( i think )

theres like zero gore/nudity/language but very scary

Gina Cochina 10-30-2007 10:48 AM

I was really into Count Yorga, Vampire. Very scary stuff when you're nine. I have it on 16mm film now, and it's not so scary when you're in your thirties. It's actually hilarious. Count Yorga is very low-tech, and he actually hides behind doors and jumps out at people.

Another one I was terrified of (of the commercials--I never saw the movie itself until a year or so ago) was The Children. The one with the bus that drives through a radioactive cloud and turns the kids into black-nailpolish-wearing zombies. That one, too, was hilarious when viewed in adulthood.

I was so terrified of these things, but my kids think they're too stupid to watch. Which never stops me from making them watch them with me.

It's great I know. I guess I was a bit to youngh though. That flying dog, mega turtle (and I like turtles hehe) and ligtning shooting statues kept my parents up for a week or so.

Oh snap poltergeist! Watched that for the first time with my friends when my parents were out for dinner. I was 12 or something. Brrrr..... and some of my friends were late and started slamming on the windows... I've never seen a girl freak out like that.

I did get to hold her for the rest of the movie.

I must agree! The scene when the tree breaks in through the window and attacks the kids used to have me watching my trees outside just to make sure they didn't try anything :Oh crap

ShellyCrash 10-30-2007 11:27 AM

Sarah_Jayne 10-30-2007 01:08 PM

My memory of seeing Return To Oz in the cinema when I was a kid was a girl behind me yelling 'No DOROTHY, NO DOROTHY' at every nearly scary scene.

Watership Down scared the crap out of me and was also an early lesson that just because it is animated doesn't mean it is for kids.

frostyimpressions 10-30-2007 02:22 PM

I second (third? fourth) on Return to Oz and The Black Cauldron.

Danny B 11-01-2007 04:34 AM

Yup, especially the scene where these guys:

start cutting the legs of these guys:

until they're finally torn a part.

who 11-01-2007 08:15 AM

Dr. Who used to scare the crap out of me, but it's not really the topic of the thread is it..

ShellyCrash 11-01-2007 08:30 AM

I don't know why but the Dark Crystal didn't really freak me out, I loved it.

My dog isn't really fuzzy, but he has separation anxiety and he flips out and screams whenever I leave him. sometimes I think I should have named him Fizzgig:

I was just talking about that last night. That was a seriously dark morals play. You lie, drink or smoke and you turn into a mule.

Jason AO Movies 11-02-2007 03:31 AM
