Like a hot knife thru butter.

I tell you, when cutting LA traffic during rush hour, there is nothing better than getting behind a CHP motorcycle cop.

The cars just naturally seem to give you more room as you split the lanes between them. Almost like Moses and the Red Sea.

The only problem is keeping up.

I had a CHP pass my right while I was sitting in the car pool lane southbound on the 405 last night.

As he was coming up, he had his headlight set to bright, and blaring... about an hour before sunset. I remember thinking "If this jackass isn't a cop..."

But he was, and was also soon followed by 2 other bikes doing exactly what you describe.

I have to ask . . . what if he wasn't a cop, then what?

I probably woulda said "what a fucktard" out loud. :winkwink:

He's still a jackass, regardless... using high beams like that... but, as he's driving around in the capacity of public servant, not quite a fucktard... by my estimation.

The reason why he was using his high beams is so you would see him before he was along side you, thus frightening you and causing you to inadvertently pull to the right and hitting him.

I use my high beams during the day and my touring lamps at night for the very same reason. Splitting traffic or not.

Well... maybe they were touring lights, then, because they were pretty damn bright.

I notice bikes all the time, and have no problem with the amount of light coming from their head-beams... and if you do it, I can only assume that other bikers do the same... but this one was like a small sun.

I know why motorcycles use lights, and I can empathize... most motocycle wrecks go down because people didn't see the motorcycle... but, a point I seemed to not have mentioned earlier was that he also flew by me at +20-30 mph... again, more understandable if you're a cop... not so much if you're not, as I'm sure you'd agree that you really shouldn't be cutting traffic anywhere near that speed under normal circumstances.

Unless you're maybe following a cop doing the same, eh?

As I stated in my original post, the problem is keeping up. The guy I was following was doing 70-75 MPH and I just don't feel comfortable splitting traffic at that speed.

Maybe bursts when opportunity presents itself, but not for miles, non-stop.

Not positive, but pretty sure that is illegal.

Firemen don't usually give out traffic citations.
