Official Google PR update thread: step inside

I think the PR update is pretty much finished.

What do think of it? Most of my sites got hit with -1 PR.

People say Google did it to descourage link selling and PR farming.

I myself am going to drop some text links that I was buying, all of these sites got hit with -1 & -2 Not worth to pay $$ for it anymore.

Any thoughts?

chuvii 10-27-2007 09:14 AM

pr is dead

Boobs 10-27-2007 09:15 AM

Care to elaborate?

If it's dead, whats the point of keeping the PR toolbar and updating it?

pussyserver - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-27-2007 09:20 AM

Google has completely killed the use of PR with this update

PR means nothing

Donkey Punch 10-27-2007 09:30 AM

yes, all -1

:|

rowan 10-27-2007 09:36 AM

I'm wondering why the algorithm to encode a URL and grab a PR value from Google hasn't been changed - it was cracked long ago, and they could easily migrate to a newer algorithm through their toolbar autoupdate. I guess there's "other" reasons they want third party programs to be able to query it. :winkwink:

I think they want to confuse the shit out of webmasters.

Matt Cutts? Well, it could be that he is a rogue employee.

But lets look at the big picture here: google wants to confuse the hell out of webmasters to discourage them from manipulating the SERPS by figuring out the ranking algo.

IllTestYourGirls 10-27-2007 09:57 AM

most of mine stayed the same I had a few jump from 1 to 3 :D

sniperwolf 10-27-2007 10:11 AM

yep

hes taking a kickback from a company called ******board.com

they are a blog network who claim to have given Matt Cutts something like 1 million to make sue they stay at the top of the rankings ... and from the looks of this last update ... it is true

They sell links ... buy links black hat and even got little kids blogging for them

and they still rank in the top 10 ( mostlyly top 1) for their target words

I am watching this whole thing and recording in hopes of running to google higher up's with cold hard evidence printed in hand

I mean you name a city and the keyword and they are right up there ... and the worst part about it is that in order to be listed on this blog network ... it will cost you 2k per month

.... Matt Cutts need to quit google if he is going to continue to take kick backs from private companies

tehHinjew 10-27-2007 10:21 AM

pr2 to N/A

ah

RawAlex 10-27-2007 10:27 AM

Many of my pr0 sites are now pr1, pr2 or better, including some domains that haven't had PR since Matt Cutts was in diapers. Very few drops, a quite a bit of pickup.

Even the most out of the way unlinked and unloved sites are pr1.

CurrentlySober 10-27-2007 10:31 AM

4 Main sites. 3-1 1+1 Go figure !

Vigilante 10-27-2007 10:37 AM

Hm damn...

Lost Pr on 4 sites ( -1)
Gained +3 on 1 site
gained +1 on 1 site.

Not a compklete disaster but probably the end of paid links.

in my opinion this is just a step google took to make more webmasters buy their adsense spots...

V_RocKs 10-27-2007 10:40 AM

And I still get my sales and hits....

pussyluver 10-27-2007 10:42 AM

TBPR is just a number. The resluting SERPs is what counts.

A quick check shows most of my sites and competitors have lost a point.

Dropping hardlink buys or efforts just cause a site lost some TBPR does make sense to me.

Adultnet 10-27-2007 10:42 AM

it did drop off for some time now..

Remember that the PR rollouts are often offset from the actual SERPs updating, so it isn't like the PR updated and your SERPs got better on the same day. In reality, it would appear that this PR update is related to the SERPs updated from about 1 week to 10 days ago. It might also be a result of that SERPs update, and an indication of what will come next time around.

EthnicLover 10-27-2007 11:03 AM

Two of my pages went up in PR. I also received a bump in traffic starting on Wednesday. My assumption is that it has to do with the many new incoming links I've attained through Thunder-ball.

webair 10-27-2007 11:28 AM

does anyone have Matt's contact info ;)

In all honesty I am not mad at Matt Cutts for stuffing his pockets..... and stabbing sergey and that other guy in the back I am pissed at the blog network that paid him.

Hell, its bad enough that they pretty much own the keywords due to the paid relationship with Matt Cutts ... but why do they insist on bad mouthing me and trying to sabotage the competition

even worse... the company that matt cutts is taking the kick back from has cost me aprox 150K in fake adsense clicks this year alone

I am so over this internet shit it makes my skin crawl

I swear I wish there were a new search engine on the horizon

is it a proven fact that Matt Cutts was taking kick backs from sites not affiliated with google? or is it all just speculation?

Violetta 10-27-2007 12:06 PM

mine went one down too :(

it is a proven fact that matt cutts has taken a kick back from ******board.com not to mention the fact that one of the owners of the site has even mentioned this at a mainstream conf

fact

ah

The question is... Did your google traffic remain the same?

I am sure it even increased... :winkwink:

I looks like this PR change gave small and poor sites higher PR and good sites with good traffic less PR and more google traffic. The intention of the new PR change is to avoid link trading based on a site's PR rank... :2 cents:

If it was proven, I don't think google would keep him around... :2 cents:

st0ned 10-27-2007 12:25 PM

I had a network of 15 PR4's which dropped to PR3's during the update. I did also have about 50 PR0's jump to PR3's though. So good and bad I guess.

NTSS 10-27-2007 12:30 PM

fuck page rank - it dont mean jack shit anyways!

PR means nothing

Check the Traffic Trades thread, I think more than a few people disagree!

Point: It's about perception. Would you rather trade links with a PR5 site or a PR0? How much can you charge for a link on a PR1 vs. a PR6?

PR is still important. It still plays a factor in how often and how deep Google spiders your site and what gets listed in the main SERPs vs. what gets put into the now invisible Supplementals (yes, its merging with the main index but don't think it's an irrelevant split).

pornask 10-27-2007 01:51 PM

No change in PR for me. My ranking in Google increased, however msn dropped me which make me realy sad - best traffic comes form there.

SmokeyTheBear 10-27-2007 02:31 PM

if you want to check the changes put your url in the url here , some of the servers are still showing old results so you can see old and new pr

http://www.digpagerank.com/index.php...hpbb.com&dc=18

the top servers are new pr ,

this is the pr for phpbb.com that has been selling links
