TheFLY 4000 -- after 4000 posts I'm moving to NYC...

Well I'm not kidding... I love Florida, but one of my good friends in Brooklyn has an extra room -- seemed like a great opportunity!

McAttack 09-18-2002 09:26 PM

Wow, excellent! It'd be better if you were the Crowned Prince of Porn in Manhattan instead, but Bronx'll do too. Have fun man! NYC is great!:thumbsup

Nina 09-18-2002 09:26 PM

yay! :thumbsup

Backov 09-18-2002 09:26 PM

Good choice dude, Nina totally wants you. And her hairy lipped girlfriend does too I hear.

I wouldn't go back to New York again for any damn reason.....

bigdog 09-18-2002 09:43 PM

Brooklyn sucks you have to come over to Jamaica Estates.Brooklyn is not the safest place to live

TheFLY 09-18-2002 09:45 PM

Back in about 1999 my best friend and I were in art school together -- we did shows all of the time -- my art was at a peak... We agreed to move to NY together... We drove up there in my GTI -- half of the shit was his -- other half was mine -- we traveled light. We stayed in his dead grandmother's brownstone in Brooklyn -- but they were selling it so we only had one week to find a place to live... At that point in my life I wasn't willing to step down my standard of living -- and my best friend didn't have the kind of income that I did. Our friendship died mostly because of my greed... I was there a week -- my good friend Gustavo was supposed to hook me up with a job at DoubleClick... Really it's hard as hell to find an apartment in NY if you don't have a lot money -- and Brad Shaw had just ripped me off $1000... Most NY apartments do all kinds of background checks on you -- and being self-employed, it's not very easy to pass w/o two years of 1040's which I didn't have... My friend never got me an interview... I fell for an NYC apartment scam... I found one apartment in Hoboken but it wasn't very thrilling -- that area kindof bored the piss out of me -- besides I wasn't really looking forward to taking a fucking train to work every day -- BORING. Things were not looking up... I was out shopping one day -- and a fucking pick-pocket steals my $300 cell phone (just bought it w/o theft protection plan)... That just blew my fuse... I didn't even see it happen -- otherwise I would have had some relief kicking that fucker's ass... But I never saw the guy... I was watching one of those street artists when I was robbed. You got to watch your back all the time in NY I guess. Well after that I moved back to Florida... I had a lot of fun -- but all this time I've given up on NY. Meanwhile my friends have been forging away there -- so I'm off to exploit all of their hard work ;) This time I think I'm ready to face the "big city"... I'm going with nothing to lose to advance my art career... I'm not looking for fame -- just to be around more stimulation and creative-minded/appreciative individuals. If anyone tries to rob me I will split their skull on the pavement :)

TheFLY 09-18-2002 10:19 PM

Almost at 4000... This is too much work.

eRock 09-18-2002 10:32 PM

So you got robbed & scammed the short time you were there & you're sayin' that you're get split some fuckers wig if he robs you? What makes ya think it's gonna be any different this time? Maybe you're a little less naive in life, but goin' from trailer park FL to NYC is still a shitload diiferent. Shit...I've lived in the city all my life & STILL bad shit happens to me. It's not like the Tobaccy-spittin', good ol' boys of FL.

And you were saying that you didn't wanna take the train to work, but you better get used to gettin' to know those train/bus schedules. :1orglaugh Even if you have a car, you're not gonna wanna take it out a lot. Parking's a bitch here...II can't imagine how bad it is there.

Well, good luck to ya, man. :thumbsup

Well good point... I'll do my best to stay out of trouble ;) Anyway, it's not all trailer parks here, but I won't miss the rednecks.

I'll probably sell my car but my friend says parking near his brownstone is not bad... I don't mind the train or subway -- my point was that it would suck to get up every morning early -- walk to train station, ride train, etc. to work... every day after day... not fun.

Jer 11-15-2002 07:50 PM

That's why the bumpy coalition was created. To give others the opportunity to check the forgotten but good threads.

Jer 11-16-2002 07:40 AM

Indeed. Silly JFK.

I think threads older than... oh... a month (a week?) should somehow be color coded on the main page so people know it's been bumped.
