why do they call MLB finals "The World Series"?
why is it "world" ?
Because we Americans think all of our sports are the best in the world.
The best players from all over the World compete in it.
So Americans can find it on a map.

There is a rumor that it was started because it was sponsored by a newspaper called "The World" at first, but the truth is at the time there wasn't any other countries with organized baseball events and teams. They've kept the name, but it should be changed. The winners of the World Baseball classic are the true World Champions.
It is no different than when an NBA or NFL teams wins their championship and they call them the "world champions". I've always thought it was pretty arrogant.
well, NBA does the same as well as American Football? Thats just stupid.

The best baseball players in the world are in MLB, period. The cream of the crop from other countries come here to play baseball, and the only players that go overseas are our broken down veterans.
The same can be said of the NFL, although admittedly football is an American sport. As a matter of fact, the same can be said of the NBA. The best foreign players come here to play, and the only players that go overseas are the players that can't make it in the NBA. Hmmm.... |
