3) Respond
Let life touch you. Let sad things make you sad, let great things inspire your soul. There is something inside everyone that recognizes extraordinary things. Let beauty affect you. Let your mistakes frustrate your conscience into inspirational dissatisfaction.

He always has and has been one of my favorite posters here since he first came on here pawning stuff for 5 bucks :) My how some mocked his ass.

With his posts often you must not take every article or whatnot as litteral advice though.

Thanks, ASM. I can say the same for you. I have always appreciated your candid analysis and well thought out comments. While I can't always agree, your food for thought definitely enrich many conversations.

As for mocking, yeah, I remember when i first started posting on GFY. The hate was THICK. But slowly but surely, I gained many people's trust 1 by 1. In face, many of my earlier detractors became my loyal clients. I can't thank them enough for giving me a shot despite the early skepticism.

Here's my favorite part of the article:
"5) Share
Something I told a class of mine recently is that in order to be a leader, you need to go from being ‘learning based’ to being ‘teaching based.’ Learn with the intention of teaching it to others. Hear a great story in order to tell it to someone. Read my newsletter thinking of how you can use these ideas to help your friends and colleagues. When you share, it is a true win-win situation. The listener is transformed by the knowledge, and you are transformed by giving selflessly."

Yeah, I always take advice from people who have multiple hyphens in their domain name. They aren't smart enough to get a good domain name, why would anything else they say be intelligent?

Thicky Dix 10-25-2007 08:50 PM

Thanks, a nice boost of motivation.

Good names have nothing to do with intellegence, they have to do with timing or cash. Oh and to slap some sense into your skull, very often the engines see hypens as spaces and can result in a default higher placement over a non hypenated version with other seo being equal. This advantage is not always guarenteed, yet it pops up way often enough to make it worth it specially if your going for SE traffic and not type ins. Then again most use SE or bookmarks. Hell even auto fill gets more than type ins on average.

I know there are supposedly SEO benefits to it. I don't own any hyphenated domains, never have. I have always had a rather low opinion of people who have to resort to such tactics. Sort of like spamming.

Maybe saying it was a matter of intelligence was a haphazard, what I should have said was that he lacked creativity. Its like the guy who uses a .net to start his business because he can't get the .com (and he is not an ISP, as ISPs are the only ones who are SUPPOSED to be using the .nets), when I see it I immediately think the second guy is late to the game and/or amatureish.

Then again, keep in mind that this comes from the guy who is more and more in favor of turning off DNS completely and doing away with the entire concept of domains all together and having everyone have a numerical address only.

There's quite a bit of logistical problems with that.... numerical based system. Maybe a hybrid "TAG" system agreed to by a global body of hosts. This would cut down on spam and spoofing as well. Maybe it would sell better if used as an integral portion of Internet2.0 (ie., sell the "bulletproof ID and tag" system as part of a new system that guarantees speed and security).
