I think there has been a shuffle going on lately, but I've always wondered how adding more Google tracking affects ranking. With Google Webmasters they better track your page, then with Google Analytics they track everything.

Seems with all their technology they would use it to improve search results. I'd certainly like to know if it's better to keep google blindsided in some cases.

tehHinjew 10-25-2007 08:01 PM

but i cant understand why it happend

i was first page for "cute teens" then with this google tracker, i cant even find my site

notoldschool 10-25-2007 08:03 PM

google just had a major shake up.

Lamis 10-25-2007 08:03 PM

no, google webmasters tool has nothingto do with it..

your drop was because you are interlinking between your own sites, that's why..

yumma 10-25-2007 09:03 PM

don't share anything with google - it's a evil of 21 century!

Jace 10-25-2007 09:04 PM

Seriously? That seems pretty lame of them to penalize a person for throwing a link from one of their own sites to another.

I wonder the same thing all the time... all day I was thinking about how I give them way too much information by using analytics

even with being careful with links and being on different c classes and all, I wonder if a simple thing like having the sites on the same google analytics will link them in google's algorithm and count them as being an inlink

I also wonder about the traffic info.. it seems wrong if google uses pure traffic numbers in any way in their se results algorithm... too easily manipulated, impossible to get real accurate numbers meaning they will be skewed all over the place..... traffic numbers have no business being in serp until they have a way to accurately measure them, which is virtually impossible

so if you sign up for analytics and they determine your site has less traffic than another site for the same keyword they will punish you by dropping you further? worse yet using anything fromm alexa.... seems very wrong of them

martinsc 10-25-2007 11:15 PM

yes, google had a fucking big update or shake up...
all my sites have been going up and down....

Why would they use Alexa? Google has it's own toolbar which measures traffic, and those numbers are part of the algorithm (according to Google patents)

digifan 10-26-2007 03:35 AM

I signed up for their webmaster tools a few months ago but it did not effect my PR or SE traffic.

polish_aristocrat 10-26-2007 03:39 AM

shit, i should get into seo

if tehhinjew can do it, i can surely as well

polish_aristocrat 10-26-2007 03:41 AM

5 years in this biz and i dont think i ever got more than 200 uniques daily from SE'S in my life

i never tried either.. at all

thanks God my income doesnt rely on getting free SE traffic :Oh crap:Oh crap

I just did a search for "cute teens". Did you see this link on the bottom already?

In response to a legal request submitted to Google, we have removed 1 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read more about the request at ChillingEffects.org.

That one was added to Google back in January this year - wouldnt have affected his site - the update they are doing started a few days ago and is affecting a bunch of sites out there - not just his - and has nothing to do with Google WM tools

Czech 10-26-2007 08:48 AM

Maybe it's a shake up before PR is released.

buzzy 10-26-2007 08:54 AM

Google just had a massive update, and incase you didnt know google penalizes you for paid links.

SpacemanSpiff 10-26-2007 11:56 AM

I've seen people blame adding a Google sitemap as the cause of their traffic falling off. There's a way that could possibly be valid, namely if you used some sort of auto sitemap generator that added some pages to your sitemap that Google really didn't like. Pages you probably wouldn't have put in your sitemap had you done it manually.

Other than that, having a Webmaster Tools account or Analytics shouldn't effect your rankings at all. They already track a lot of info about your sites whether you have those tools or not. Do a search, right click on the links and check the url that displays at the bottom of the browser.

leftsans 10-26-2007 03:15 PM

too late now, but i might make a new network of sites and use Google analytics, google webmaster etc but I wouldnt do it with an existing site...
