Foods the help when you have a cold?

Yesterday I bought a quart of hot and sour soup from the local chinese place, that seemed to help. Right now I have tomato soup on the stove and plan on doing a grilled cheese with it.

What foods help you feel better when you have a really shitty cold and cant breathe through your nose?

Try eating ginger. That usually knocks the crap outta my sinuses.

homemade chicken soup. Cliches are cliches for a reason.

Yeah good chicken soup broth is nice!

I like tomato and grilled cheese too. But I think the chicken soup has more restorative properties. Garlic, lemon and parsley are always good too. Orange juice of course.

Get well soon.

A drink that I think really helps is hot green tea with some honey if a sore throat is involved. :)

thanks for the tips I called my mom for her homemade chicken dumpling soup recipe, I am gonna hit the grocery store and also grab some tea while im at it.

Wash your hands after you go out in public and before you touch your nose, eyes, mouth etc.

Everytime I have a small cold and go out in public, it gets worse. Especially a place like grocery store where a zillion other peoples germs are laying in wait. lol I stand there staring at the electronic pen to sign the CC charge thinking "how many people just touched that thing in this day alone?" haha. Seriously.

chicken soup man

my wife makes it from scratch

everything from scratch these days, i dont even know what canned food is anymore

Mediachick 10-25-2007 12:42 PM

My list would be :

Fresh ginger tea with lemon and honey

Orange juice

anything hot or spicy to unclog stuffy nose and sinuses

A LOT of water

Also NO dairies because dairies only feeds the bacteria that causes mucus in your respiratory system.

As you can see its pretty much liquids. The chicken soup and other broth and teas are suggested to get as much liquid as possible I would think. Get better!

It's the hot steam coming off the food or drink that opens up the sinuses:2 cents:

Bdiddy 10-25-2007 01:19 PM

Any soup is usually good. I recommend homemade Minestrone.

Also, a Bloody Mary has always worked well for me. Make sure it's spicy!

dready 10-25-2007 01:33 PM

Ginseng, ginger, garlic, and lots of fresh juices.
