I bet 75% or more people believe in zodiac signs crap. Some more than others. A good bunch reads that shit everyday in magazines for weak minded people.

The Earth's precession implies that although Polaris is currently the star above our North pole, in about 13,000 years Vega will become our North star; only, after yet another 13,000 years, will our North pole will once again point towards Polaris.

1.) the stars that we see that make up a lion will still make up a lion in 13,000 years, they'll just be in a different place. This causes very little concern since the lion is in a different place at 10pm than it is at 4am anyhow due to the Earth's rotation.

2.) The stars that humans discovered hundreds or even thousands of years have shifted very little in relation to how much the stars will have shifted in 13,000 years so the the lion of 1000 years ago is still the lion of today.

Essentially, whether or not Polaris will be over the north pole... it will still be in our sky. And in fact, it won't have moved at all, we'll just perceive it to be in a new location. So any divine meaning we may or may not think it holds over us will not have changed at all.

I'm not a fan of Astrology... I think it's just a religion of illusion.

For example, every time a planet goes into retrograde, the devout feel that means something's wrong with the symbols that the planet represents, when, in fact, it's just the Earth catching up to and passing the planet on the ecliptic plane.

That said, Astrology has been a very important part of our scientific and cultural development as a species. I do feel it's outmoded, but if it's arguable that if it weren't for Astrology, civilization wouldn't ever have occurred, as it was the calendars and systematic system of planting and animal herding that based itself on the "science" of Astrology that lent way to us being in a place to settle down and build roots.

I think you're wrong in saying that your zodiac sign is not your zodiac sign. The fact of the matter is that the Earth's Precession (one of only many Precessions that affect our view of the stars in cosmological time) moves so slowly from our perspective that the constellations that formed the basis for the zodiac in astrology are still, literally on our zodiac during their respective times (the line over which the sun "travels" through the cosmos)... so if you were born under a certain sign, I believe - without exception - that was the same sign that it was 5,000 years ago, and will still be 2,000 years from now.

So, even if Astrology _is_ a bunk fragment of ancient religion, which we both seem to think it is - your argument falls short because people born under Cancer, for example, were still born under Cancer. The "religion" might need a tune-up in another 10,000 years (if it's still around in some form), but for now, it's still good to go in that respect.

Does that mean that reading one's horoscope is an intelligent thing to do and base your future hopes and dreams on every day? I don't think so... but then, most people that believe in aspects of Astrology would tell you the same, also.

ofcourse the zodiac signs are bullshit, nothing new

I remember watching Derren Brown (mind controlling expert from UK) and he took 5 students from 3 different countries (or maybe 2) anyway he asked them to fill in a form detailing some things about their life, then he said he would take the info and write out something that would apply to them. Kind of like how your stars read in the magazines...

Well after a while he returned all the envelopes to them with their readings in them and then had them say on camera how much they thought this applied to their life. They were all saying 80% of it is me, or 75% of it is true etc etc...

Well it turned out each of them had the exact same reading. It was funny to watch their reaction and how stupid they all felt for believing in this crap.
