Cops arrest reporter for standing on a public sidewalk.
This is some of the most fucked up shit I have ever seen. There is a long UNEDITED video on the page.
http://www.local10.com/news/14411684/detail.html |
Well, the fact that they continually asked him to go across the street and would not state a reason is bullshit. They should have known a law that they could claim they were enforcing in asking that.
The fact that the reporter had a concealed .38 handgun without a license is PURE idiocy. |
Oh sorry, he DID have a license to carry a concealed weapon, but it's still pretty stupid. Maybe not idiocy.
|
Fuck him. The reporter was breaking the law and now he's pissed that he got arrested, and he's not even black?

It was real stupid on the cops part. Talk about violating rights. |

federal reserve owns the usa...and thus the sidewalks..it is not public property that guy is a hippy scumbag and needs to be put to death for trespassing for sure |

2. When a police officer asks you to move, WTF is wrong with someone that they want to argue with a guy carrying a gun??? 3. In Florida, the Officers have a law they use called. " Failure to obey a lawful command." In that law is a trespassing section. |

That really is sick though, irregardless of the gun thing. The gun was never mentioned whatsoever. He simply saw a reporter and cameraman and tried to make him leave. Thats not lawful. Hope this gets updated.
BTW: those kids were just like all the punks I remember from school, goddamn youth is wasted on young people... |
I would not argue with the cops while I had a weapon on me regardless if it's totally legal or not.
|
Hey, it's not surprising that people are confused and think that police are able to create laws just by saying something. But it's false.
Do you know you dont ever have to take a breathalizer? Do you know if a police officer tries to imply that you'll get in trouble if you refuse them a search of your car or house, that it's just a ploy? Most people dont even know that simple stuff.. |
Quote:
And yes you have the right to tell the officer that he can not search your car. Then, if you have been rude, or he thinks you are hiding stuff, he will arrest you for something, and when he inventories the vehicle, you will get charged with any thing that is in the vehicle that is illegal. You fuck with a cop, and if he has half a brain, he will fuck you silly. |

Sadly 99.9 % of the laws were made so that the officer could use them to protect and help others. But they are often misused. |
lesson learned , dont argue with the cops ...
|
WTF that's so lame.

But these things work better in a vacum and not always so well at 1:am when pulled over on a dark road in the middle of nowhere. If I had exercised all my rights when I was stopped by cops then I would still be in jail for being a smart ass and not just letting them look at something for 30 seconds. |
When a cop asks you to move, FUCKING MOVE!! It's really not that hard.
|
Why were they asking him to move?

the gun had nothing to do with it, they cant arrest the press. It will be thrown out.

Unless the initial altercation can be justified (giving a real reason to cuff him for standing on a public sidewalk), they'll likely throw out any charges involving a gun that they should never have found. |
Yeah I agree with all the "it may be your rights, but.." comments as well! And thats the thing with this video.. Even the police officer is SO well used to people just DOING it because he's a policeman and he said so, that when he was actually confronted with someone saying "But WHY?" he had no answer, lol.
I'm asking you to move. Why? This is a public sidewalk. Because I'm asking you to move to the other side of the road. lol, oops! Someone needs a supervisor.. They need to be able to cite an ordinance or whatever the case may be, at least to cover the simplest question. Police are supposed to only enforce after all, not create or judge.. thats the other 2 branches of gov. jobs. |
Quote:
How did you do it? |
and I seem to recall they said he was arrested for a variety of charges . . . I don't recall "standing on a public sidewalk" as being one of them.

The school didn't want the news crew out front of their campus to do a story about how much violence is going on. Imagine that, a governmental entity not wanting bad press?
They reacted by sending the police to bully them away. The officers acted outside of their authority and the law by ordering someone to move from a public location, simply because a governmental entity didn't want to be embarrassed by the press. Sorry, but that doesn't fly. |

What was the cop referencing when he kept mentioning being within 500' of a school? |

The purpose of the statute was to allow officers to remove potential child molesters or drug dealers from the area. |

One would "reasonably" believe that the news reporter was there to do a news story, not to attack children. |

Face it, the guy wanted to get arrested, he even said it. Mission: Accomplished. Again, I don't know FL law, what was the cop talking about when he kept mentioning being within 500' of a school? From what I could see (disclaimer: based solely on the video. The cops were there before the camera crew was, so there had to be something going on), the cop had legitimate concern about the crowds that would form on this public sidewalk if the reporter was allowed to do his report from where he was trying to do it. |

BTW:
Why in the hell so many people in this country are so willing to surrender their constitutional rights at the drop of a god damn hat anymore is above and beyond me...... You should all move to fucking Russia, maybe you'll be happier there, because you sure as hell don't act like Americans. :2 cents: PS: Three cheers for this new reporter and others like him, they're on the front line of defending our liberties. |
