Tom from MySpace is a Liar

Seems they got busted lying about Tom's age and people are freaking out about it:

Article on Switched Blog

Someone even updated the guy's Wiki already.

I don't see what all the hubub is about, I thought it was pretty obvious it was BS from the begining. I know that Tom's a real person, &he is / was an employee who worked on myspace, but he never ran the show. Myspace was started by a company that already owned and operated other websites. The whole Tom persona is just a way to give it more of a grass roots backstory for PR that everyone loves.

I do think it's ironic that the "flagship" profile of this site is an adult male lying about his age to be younger who is automatically friended by the site to every minor that joins. Maybe he'll turn up on "To Catch a Predator" :winkwink:

Tom isn't the founder of Myspace???

He was an employee at one time, but the site was developed by the marketing company that owned it. Before it was Intermix it was called EUniverse. They also put out alot of spyware under the EUniverse name.

Here's a good article on it from 05:

Quote:

Intermix used to be eUniverse, a company that found its Nasdaq listing through a reverse merger with a nearly defunct motorcycle retailer, dabbled in an eclectic mix of Web sites, restated its finances and was banished to the pink sheets. But now, thanks to a new management that saw potential in an emerging technology called social networking, Intermix has found a home on the American Stock Exchange, where its stock has been rallying

i don't see it as that big of a deal. so what if he wants to be 30 instead of 40? not like he's telling 15 year old girls that he's 16. :)

who gives a flying fuck anyhow.

myspace is still the best networking site out there if you can keep the adult losers off of there.

i must kill 25 fake profile add requests everyday.

adult internet people always fuck up community sites that should be the real story on myspace, not who created it.

I thought tom was the founder.

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 10-24-2007 06:36 PM

Richard Rosenblatt was the man behind myspace and was the man that sold it for 500 million.

i think he is. he doesn't do many interviews, but i was listening to an interview with him on the Adam Corrolla Show and everyone was under the assumption that he created it, owned it and sold most of his interest in it, putting the bulk of the sale price in his pocket. i think the fact that he has done so few interviews and has been so private, prompts this kinda crap. he did say that most of the 500,000,000.00 went into his pocket and he just works there now... so either he told quite a few lies during the interview or people are just morons.
i'm going with the latter.

That documentary said that Tom owned 33% of Myspace, so he still made money even if he was not the full owner.

Also, check out this facebook documentary.
