What is a good, small digital camera that can take great pictures?

Anyone know? Just something I can carry around without needing a strap around my neck or something lol

papill0n 10-23-2007 09:58 PM

here ya go olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1287

been using it for 6 months - only 3x optical but it takes a great picture and is waterproof and shockproof.

FelixFlow 10-23-2007 10:06 PM

anything canon digital elph

minusonebit 10-23-2007 10:20 PM

I like my Cybershot. Then again, I am not really an expert on such things.

pornask 10-23-2007 10:23 PM

G series Canon - if you want pro quality, compact size and decent price tag.

Cash 10-23-2007 11:43 PM

Buy a digital camera from a reputable online company!

RevSand 10-24-2007 12:07 AM

Canon or casios always get my vote for small cameras... I think the canon lens are a little better but I like the style and functions of the casio small cameras... Look at the canon elp series or the casio exilim series.. I have an older exilim that took great pics till I sat on it with the lens out... Even now the pics are not BAD.. Just not always in focus..

Here's another vote for any of the Canon compact cameras. I've owned about 5 of the different models over the years. They just keep on getting better.

I've heard only the best about Canon cameras....

Scott McD 10-24-2007 06:36 AM

We got a Sony Cybershot 7.2 the other week. Takes a pretty good pic !

WebairGerard 10-24-2007 06:38 AM

Canon's are great cameras. Personally I would be sure to get one with manual controls and image stabilization. Like the Powershot A570 IS.

Angie77 10-24-2007 08:09 AM

My cybershot is pretty neat. Works for me.

dready 10-24-2007 08:50 AM

The new Panasonic Lumix seems very nice.

vidvicious 10-24-2007 09:30 AM

these are my two top choice small digi cameras ...
1st leica M8 approx $5500.00 for the 10 mp camera
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/l...ges/462012.jpg

next is Lumix by Panasonic (as mentioned by Dready)
there are many different models .. for a point and shoot I'd go for the DMC-FX100 12 mp camera approx $400

As a professional photographer I strongly recommend against sony digital cameras. They look cute with cute little buttons and all, but the quality is miserable. Remember - any camera will give you decent picture in perfect light, but 85% of the time you will NOT have perfect light. That is when you start appreciating quality glass. Buying new camera? Think Canon. Sony is at the undisputed last spot on the list of recommended cameras.

J$tyle$ 10-24-2007 03:37 PM

canon looks like the leader here

todhunter 10-24-2007 04:07 PM

One more vote for Canon. I've been using a PowerShot 410 for years and it has never given me any trouble. I have shot for my own website with it since I started it.

Looks really nice.. Read some reviews etc. and I think I might get myself the SD850IS one for about $50 more... Cool thing is that I'm thinking of heading down to the US and I can save $130 (from buying it in Canada) on it even before I take into the exchange rates.

You can get it here for only about $13 more than I paid.

I didn't see that available where I picked up mine.

I'd probably have picked it up if I'd seen it sooner

Well, Cannon definitely seems to have it... I guess I will have to try them next time around.
