Cops are cracking down on the internet

It was only matter of time before cops started pursuing illegal downloaders.
I thougt it would happen much earlier so I didn't even touch Napster back in the day.

If you think you've got some "slick operation" going; better wind it up because big surprises are around the corner.

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=a75_1193164873

People who think they can use stolen content on tube sites because they are not in the US are going to be really suprised when they find out about all the international cooperation agreements concerning copyrighted material.

Good Luck to you.

People getting raped, killed and beaten daily and they have the mind to give even the littlest time to downloading...should be a civil matter.

How can they catch people using torrents? Not like it's napster or kazaa or something lol...

SilentKnight 10-23-2007 05:53 PM

While I detest copyright infringement and all these tube/torrent sharing sites, I'd much sooner see authorities allocating more of their resources to cracking down on those who abuse children and distribute CP.

Its the same sad priority as the war on drugs. All the money spent trying to deal with pot users - while murderers, psychos, rapists and other dangerous scum of society wander our streets on bail or parole.

We live in fucked up times.

Yeah sure, and when somebody steals your car you dial 911 and bitch because it's taking the cops 30 minutes to get there. You don't consider letting the car go and forgeting about the theft just because other people are getting murdered. Sorry, but that's how it is.

Cops should not be doing anything to enforce copyright laws. The copyright holders - at their own expense - should be doing it. To do otherwise is a form of corporate welfare. As long as programs, content and movies cost money, there will be ways to steal them and people stealing them. Right now torrents are all the rage. Before that it was IM. Before that it was Fserve and IRC. Before that it was FTP. Before that it was media/license code swapping. Before that, well, you get the point. The game will change, but the objective and the outcome will always be the same.

IllTestYourGirls 10-23-2007 07:02 PM

and this is exactly why I am voting for Ron Paul... Fuck this shit. They are attacking the internet so they can have total control. Start with porn then move on from there.

In many areas in the world copyright infringement is a criminal offense and therefore handled by the cops.

Read that! Some people are in for a big surprise.

Ok, please explain to me why people should be able to download the latest top 40 CD's for free.

I'm just trying to understand why you think you are entitled to that.

Because those cock suckers are making a fortune and living too large and when your mother dies slowly from lack of health insurance those rich bastards will use her heart to keep themselves alive another five days.

So you are all for capitalism when it goes your way, but if supply and demand dictate that something is more expensive than you want to pay for, fuck the creators because they are making too much money???

Can't have it both ways boss.

Kinda misleading to say they are going after people downloading it.

The video said the guy was downloading it, then uploading it to his website which had 180,000 paying members.

They are just going for the head of the snake first.
When they stubble accross a huge downloader that left a solid trail then they will. Most downloaders don't have much evidence pointing to them.

So you're saying I'm wrong and that copyright infringement should take funding priority over child abuse and child pornography.

Do you understand the difference between criminal and civil matters in the legal system?

warlock5 10-23-2007 11:14 PM

Good Luck to you.

The media uses the term downloading very loosely. Nobody has ever been arrested or sued for downloading. It's the uploading that gets people into trouble.

This particular video is talking about the owner of that Oink torrent site.

The tv-links.co.uk site was also just shut down by British authorities.

And I guess you just never have? My point is you are totally self absorbed. While this topic is very important to you the average person couldn't give a fuck and if states/counties start allocating police officers that are much needed on the streets to tracking people who download movies and music, I'd think you would have outrage by the general public.

And I look at the problem of downloading much like i look at the problem of drugs. You can lock up all the drug users you want but unless you put the dealers/pushers behind bars you'll just have more and more users to lock up. Go after those who enable those to download. Only that would make sense and require a lot less manpower.

British and Dutch police have shut down a "widely-used" source of illegally-downloaded music.
"The site allowed the uploading and downloading of pre-release music and media to thousands of members.
A 24-year-old man from Middlesbrough was led from his home in the town's Grange Road and is being questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and infringement of copyright law.
The site's servers, based in Amsterdam, were seized in a series of raids last week. "

By this logic we should not prosecute the Enron and World com scandles.
They should get away with multi-billion dollar fraud because somewhere in some town somebody got shot.

I see plenty of cops doing nothing so they are not so overloaded to the point where they need to ignore one crime in favor of another.

If you want to do your part to free the cops up to focus on "big crime" then don't call them when someone steals your car or punches you in the mouth.

But you will call the cops as soon as it happens and if they hang up the phone saying that all 3000 of them are busy profiing a serial killer you will think they a full of bullshit and it doesn't take 3000 people to profile the killer.

You are only arguing this point because you want to continue to download freely.

Further, the cops did not make this a priority!!! Illegal downloading has been going on since 1995 at least. They waited 12 years to prosecute two people and you think they are allocating too much resources to it??? Give me a break.

True; they will go after the big ones that are supplying 1000's of copies online and pretty much leave it at that.
But if they "stubble" across someone who has every movie ever made burned on CD they might prosecute unless it can be proved that these were paid for.

I would wonder about future technology changes though. If it becomes easier to track people on the net and contact them then someone who uses a site like kaaza and has downloaded 1000's of songs might get a phone call.

Hey, thanks for the idea. :thumbsup

I'll be sure to rat you the fuck out if you put up some CP.

If you want to break the law then don't use my script.

That's right; I don't want any secondary charges where some court decides that I provided the script for illegal purposes.

Damn right! If you're a crook uploading CP then don't send me any money.
