ubuntu edition

Which version did you download. I want to run my laptop as a testing server. Does the desktop edition have LAMP.

I use ubuntu on an old machine for development. Generally speaking, it's overkill unless you are on a really large project or aren't using Windows to begin with. On my laptop I use XAMPP which has apache, mysql, perl and php built into one easy to install and administer package. I find myself using that more than I use my old test server.

The windows version of XAMPP has: Apache, MySQL, PHP + PEAR, Perl, mod_php, mod_perl, mod_ssl, OpenSSL, phpMyAdmin, Webalizer, Mercury Mail Transport System for Win32 and NetWare Systems v3.32, Ming, JpGraph, FileZilla FTP Server, mcrypt, eAccelerator, SQLite, and WEB-DAV + mod_auth_mysql.
