Righto. We are in the Americas, and one country in the Americas is called the United States of America. There are many other countries in the Americas (north and south,) so calling only one of them "America" is a misnomer.

Canada is in North America. And the US is in North America. so to use the term United States OF America IS Proper.

US is the abbr of United States which is a variant name (name nevertheless) of USA (an abbr of United States of America).

Every where we go, we are referred to as Americans. Not Mexican, not Canadian, not Brazillian, or any of them other places. Americans.

this is a stupid debate.. when someone says america it is common sense for someone to know what you are referring to, same with US,USA etc. The world has become lazy and doesn't like to say things to there full capacity like it was first meant. Therefore America is a country, it just isn't the full correct name of the country but people do refer to it as such therefore it's only smart ass' who debate that. DO you call yourself a United States American or an American....

And a big one at that.
